It is with broken hearts that the family announces the passing of John on Tuesday June 9th, 2026 at the age of 75. As a retired Durham Regional Police Officer, John served his community for over 30 years.
John leaves behind his loving wife, Carole (nee Tomlins). Devoted parent to Chris (Sherri) Oerlemans, Heather (Ray) Ellis and Stephen Payne. Proud and beloved Papa to Sarah (Dylan), Caitlin (Matt), Rachel (Jay) and Trinity (Dylan). Cherished brother to Julie Alexander, and Rob (Luanne) Payne. John is predeceased by his parents Fred and Isabel and his sister Sally. Loving pet parent to his devoted dog, Sherlock. Remembered by his many hunting buddies and friends from his coffee club. John will also be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who provided exceptional care and compassion during John's battle with cancer.
In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Solina Community Hall, 1964 Concession Rd 6, Hampton, Friday June 26th, 2026 from 3:00pm - 7:00pm.

I’ve known John for many years as Chris is my son-in-law. I have many memories from family get togethers at their home and Chris & Sherri’s. His sense of humour goes without saying, although it was very quirky at times… He will be forever remembered for his love of family, willingness to help those who needed it, family, friends or those just needing a hand. I will miss his funny, entertaining remarks and just the great man that he was…. Love Bonnie
