It is with profound sadness that the family of (Paul) Wolfgang Zitzer, of Cobourg, Ontario, announces his passing on June 1, 2026, at Extendicare, Cobourg, at the age of 95.
Born in Bremen, Germany, in 1931, Wolfgang (or “Wolfie,” as he was affectionately known) immigrated to Canada in 1953, settling first in Toronto and later living in Oshawa and Cobourg. A self-starter with a passion for nature, he ran his own landscaping business for several decades and loved spending time at the cottage that he built with his wife, Brenda, to whom he was happily married for 60 years.
Wolfgang was a loving father to his late son Ulf (from a previous marriage), son Toby and daughter Noelle (son-in-law Rob); he was also a proud grandfather to Svenja and great-grandfather to Malou, who reside in Germany. He is predeceased by his brother, Richard, and sister, Eva. Wolfgang will be fondly remembered by friends and extended family in Canada, Germany, and the UK for his spontaneous acts of kindness, love of animals, and unique brand of humour.
The family would like to thank the staff at Extendicare, Cobourg, for exemplary and compassionate care.
A celebration of life will be held on June 10, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Words of Remembrance at 2:00 p.m.) at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King Street East, Cobourg, ON.
Donations in Wolfgang’s memory can be made to the Canadian Wildlife Federation or Parkinson Canada.

We last saw Wolfgang way back in 1994 but the impression he made was there for life. Such a wonderful man with a fabulously dry sense of humour, as in his reference to Wretched German beer! Peter and Jane Smith, UK.

Wolfie. From first meeting you as a naive & unworldly 15 year old, you showed me such kindness, compassion and understanding. Our bond that began with viewings of Mr bean has stayed with me ever since. Thanks my friend, thank you.
Goodbye Uncle Wolfie, I will always remember you fondly. And thank you for all your jokes, which you found hilarious, fun times. I will miss you. Vigi xx
For many years Wolfie was a pillar in our little community of Harbourwalk. He always brought a smile to my face. He'll be missed.
Sending my sincere condolences on the passing of Wolfgang! My God Bless him on his journey home! Huggs to all xo
Please accept our condolences for the passing of dear Wolfie. A kind, gentle man who was always busy building, repairing, gardening, feeding birds and chippies and doing battle with squirrels. I don't think I ever saw him sit down except to eat, play card games or watch TV/video (briefly before taking a nap). We count ourselves very fortunate to have the Zitzer family as neighbours on Copeland Lake for over 50 years.

Soo sorry for the passing of Wolfie. He was really a very nice Gentleman.
Passings are never easy for either the family and or friends. But knowing that Wolfie was loved and had a great 95 year run, gives some relief. While I only saw him from time to time, as I am a friend of his son Toby, my experience with this family has been nothing but delightful. Lots of hugs to all those concerned. Jill xxoo
Brenda. We are so sorry to hear this news. We always enjoyed our visits with Wolfgang in the clinic. We are thinking of you and your family. Jenna & Tina
