I was once a troubled youth, and I felt like nobody was in my corner, and rightfully so. I had broken the law, been arrested many of times, homeless, angry, and blamed the world for how I turned out… rotten. Margaret didn’t hesitate for a moment. She seen the degenerate I was, and decided she would look past it. When I was at my lowest, she picked me up in her car, for nothing more than for company to shop at Zellers in Cobourg, Ontario. I hadn’t had any cigarette’s and was getting easily irritated. She bought me nicotine gum, and I calmed down. We silently continued through Zellers, and she decided she wanted me to have lunch with her at the restaurant inside. I was so hungry, I almost choked up accepting the offer. While we were eating, she told me “You know, it’s never too late to turn things around. Stop trying to be something you’re not, and try being yourself.” I shrugged off the statement at the time. I thanked her for the meal, and realized she didn’t need my company to shop, she knew I needed a friend. It impacted me. It changed me. That’s who Margaret was. The one who had your back, no matter what you’ve done wrong, she gave you a fair shake. The world is a bit darker now that you are gone. You will be missed!
