It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ian Duncan at 75 years of age.
Ian was a very special person who had a kind, gentle spirit--a true gentleman.
Ian really enjoyed life; he cared for his friends; Beverly, Melanie, Darrell and Jimmy that lived with him for over 20 years. He showed his gentleness and grace to his support team. He had a contagious smile and always reached out his hand to say Hello.
A very special thank you goes out to all his caregivers at Karis Disability Services (formerly known as Christian Horizons) who over the years made his life full and meaningful. They were his "family" friends + family—and it truly showed.
He will be missed by his sister, Sandra Bowness, his niece Suzanne Bowness, his brother Dave Bowman (who has very recently passed away as well), and Dave’s wife Diane, and their families. Ian will also be missed by his friends/housemates at Karis and his support team as well.
Dorothy Margaret Duncan was the mother of Sandra, Dave, and Ian—siblings who remarkably found each other later in life.
Cremation has taken place and a "Celebration of Life" will be held at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home on Wednesday April 29, 2026 from 11:00am – 1:00 pm with a light lunch afterwards.
Interment will take place at Crawford Cemetery, Township of Lanark Highlands, Lanark, Ontario, on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 2 p.m. where Ian will be joining his many Duncan relatives who have found their final resting place there as well
I'm so sorry to hear of Ian's passing. I worked for Karis/CH for many years and often saw him at gatherings, more recently he and his housemates would visit at my farm for a day outdoors under the willow. My condolences to his family. He was a sweet man.
Rest in peace, sweet Ian. Thanks to our connection through one of your care givers I was privileged to have modified a lot of your clothing to hopefully keep you safe and comfortable. You were very loved by Laura and all of your friends, family and Karis family.
I have many wonderful memories of Ian that span over 20 years of helping him in his home. Most of all, his gentleness and kindness and his amazing ability to preservere. My sincere condolences to the family, all my coworkers, and Ian’s friends who will feel his absence every day. Ian is now pain free and at peace in heaven. He will be greatly missed.
Ian was indeed a lovely person; kind, gentle, affectionate. He endured anxiety in life, and physical pain as well. I am blessed to consider the blessings of Heaven that he is now enjoying with his God and Savior, Jesus Christ. His anxiety and pain are finished, and he is now living life to the full. I send my condolences to his family and friends.
We are so sorry to hear of Ian"s passing away. Our sincere condolences to your whole family. He will always be remembered. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Larry and Tracy (Duncan) Deforge
Dear Sandra, Suzanne and Family and Ian’s friends. When I think of Ian, I will always remember his smile and the way he greeted me with a gentle touch of his hand on mine. What a blessing it was to Ian that you found him Sandra and that a man who did not have siblings or know his family history suddenly had a brother and sister and a niece and a big extended family to encourage and love him. I am grateful and blessed to have known Ian and shared in his life journey. I will miss you Ian❤️ Christine
