With great sadness, we share the passing of Scott Dufton Campbell, born November 17, 1953, in Cobourg, Ontario, on March 31, 2026.
Scott was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Chere, and a proud father and grandfather. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Lizzy Campbell and his infant brother Christopher. He is survived by his children: Darcy and his children, Dawson & Ella; Jamie (Sarah) and their child, George; Tyler (Chantal) and their children, Ruby & Lincoln; Caeleb; Victoria (Geoff) and their children, Miller & Wrenly. He was dearly loved by his siblings Bonnie (Ray), Doug (the late Brenda), Kyle (Rosemary), and Bryn (Julie), as well as his sister- and brothers-in-law Vicki (Terry) Irwin, the late Guy McQuaig and the late Mark McQuaig, and many nieces and nephews.
Scott grew up in Cobourg with his family and attended the East High School. By Grade 10, he realized his passion for working and building something of his own was stronger than his desire to remain in school, and that decision marked the beginning of an incredible career. His natural talent for making a deal quickly became evident, and many would say that anything he touched turned to gold. What truly set Scott apart, however, was his deep respect and appreciation for people. Whether you were a business colleague or an employee across his many ventures, he made everyone feel valued.
Scott was taken from us far too soon. He had a rare gift for inspiring those around him, and his generosity and love touched countless lives. Whether through his kindness, his presence, or his way of showing up for others, Scott made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him, with so many calling him their best friend.
Anyone fortunate enough to spend time with Scott knew the presence he carried; he had a way of filling a room with energy, warmth, and life. His storytelling, jokes, and infectious laughter brought people together and left lasting impressions. While he may no longer be sitting at the table with us, his stories and the memories he created will continue to live on through all of us.
A private funeral service will be held for the immediate family.
A Celebration of Scott’s Life will be held Sunday May 24th, 2026 from 11:00am - 3:00pm at the Best Western Plus Inn & Convention Centre, Cobourg. Extended family, friends and all who loved Scott are welcome to attend.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched, far more than we may ever fully know. A superhero to so many…
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Scott's favourite charities, the Cobourg Salvation Army.

Dear Chere and family As I sit and ponder writing today I am still in disbelief at Scott’s passing. Over the past twenty years I have been privileged to consider him a trusted close friend and business partner. I will greatly miss our frequent lunches together and many phone calls. He was always ready to have a listening ear and offer good advice when needed. These qualities are rare and I will cherish the memories of our time together. Thru Scott I have also come to know his brothers whom he was very fond of. We will continue to pray for Chere and all the family as they walk thru this valley. Darrell and Susan Drain

Cathy and I wish to offer our condolences to the Campbell family for their loss. We have been recipients of his tremendous kindness and generosity and will reflect on his positive, friendly spirit as he now rests in peace.
It is difficult to find the words to comfort Scott's family. It is extremely easy to add to the accolades for Scott. If Scott wasn't smiling , he was laughing , very loud. Scott , you openly supported 3 generations of power construction in the Gatien family. From Clary to Dean/Joan and then Nick. You also supported many other power construction families. You always delivered anything asked , needed , required. 24/7. Always making certain everyone was successful. Always the centre of attention and attraction. Always making it personal. Larger than life. Please keep an eye on us from your new perch , Wayne
We are so sorry for this huge loss to family and friends. Scott's kindness and warmth will be cherished in fond memories. Love to everyone.
Extremely saddened to hear of Scott's passing. Growing up with his sons, Scott was always there to lend a kind word or helping hand or give his guidance and share his knowledge. Always with a smile and a firm handshake. During that time of your life, important influence such as that and someone to look up to like that is never forgotten. Condolences to the Campbell family.

To the entire Campbell family. So sorry for your loss.
Chere and family, my heart-felt condolences on Scott’s passing. Best regards.
I’m so sorry for our loss. Reading through all of these messages, it’s clear just how many lives Uncle Scott touched, and how deeply he was respected, admired, and loved—not just by family, but by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. To Aunt Chere, my cousins, and all my uncles and family—please know I’m thinking of you all during this incredibly difficult time. Uncle Scott was truly one of a kind. The stories people are sharing about his kindness, generosity, humour, and the way he made everyone feel valued say so much about the man he was. He had a way of lighting up a room and leaving a lasting impression wherever he went. I’ll always remember him as someone larger than life, with a big heart and an even bigger presence. It’s clear his legacy will live on not only through all of you, but through the countless people he helped, supported, and inspired over the years. I hope you can find some comfort in the incredible memories and in knowing how much he meant to so many. He will never be forgotten. With love, Tauno (Chris), Luana & Joshua.
Dear Chere, and the entire Campbell Family, sending you our deepest Condolences for your profound loss. Scott was an amazing kind person, a great friend and an icon in his industry. It was an honour to have known him and spend treasured time together. He will be greatly missed.
So many early memories of Scott from family visits. He was so much fun and very kind to his Aunt Aud. Take care Chere, immediate family and all my Campbell relatives. Love you all!
My sincere condolences to the Campbell family for your loss. I had the pleasure of meeting Scott through his generous donations to the Haliburton Health Services Foundation. Rest in Peace Scott. You will be missed.
I recently learned of Scott's passing and would like to offer my condolences to Chere, his children, his grandchildren and all members of the Campbell family. Though I have not seen Scott since I retired 10 years ago, he numbered among my favourite clients. (I can count them on one hand.) Everyone knows of his success as a businessman; success driven by hard work and the innate ability to see an opportunity and to know when to seize it. However, from my side of the desk, I saw an honest, humourous, generous and caring person who always left the office leaving those behind a little happier and better equipped to face the day. I simply cannot remember how many times Scott asked me to "write something up" to evidence a loan he had made to someone he wanted to help through hard times or business misfortune. As time went on and through this 'side-work', I saw that if Scott was in your corner he did not leave after the fight. No, Scott was there for tomorrow and the next day; there until he saw that you had landed safely and no longer needed his help. Another attribute I admired in Scott was his sincere interest in the people he met along the way. Many times a boardroom meeting was delayed for a few minutes because Scott was busy talking to office staff. It was always a first name conversation and, before squaring off with the bigwigs in the boardroom, Scott wanted to know how the kids or spouses were doing or, simply, how their day was going. Yes, Scott was a terrific person who, as evidenced by the Condolences to this Death Notice, is remembered and will be missed by many from all of his life's stages.

Chere,It is with heavy heart that I express my deepest sympathy for the loss of your beloved Scott. To all of the wonderful Campbell family, this is a very sad time, one that is hard to believe and understand. Getting through this will be heart breaking. There are no words that ease the pain. But know that myself and so many Scotts friends are thinking about you in this difficult time. I met Scott in Sept. of 2013 after arriving to work at Wildfire Golf Club. I needed a place to live and struck a deal for a little house Scott called the cabin. I would meet at the Thirsty Loon once a month to pay the rent and have a bite to eat, we learned that our love for classic cars, Corvettes and hockey ( The Leafs ) were just a couple of things we had in common. Who knew it would lead to a long lasting friendship. A friendship that I will cherish forever, all of the things we did together, all of the road trips, great times and people I met along the way. Your generosity to me and so many others speaks of the kind hearted person you lived by. I along with so many others will miss you. Love you Scotty

My Condolence's to the Campbell Family on behalf of my self and Southwire. Scott was a legend in the Utility Industry and his knowledge and friendship will be sadly missed by all.
I had the privilege to work with Scott for many years and to watch him grow Grafton to a position of dominance in the market. His vision and drive caused this. As a supplier to him you always knew he would be a tough negotiator but you also knew he would live up to his word. He was a special person and I enjoyed immensely the time I got to spend with him. He was taken far too soon. My condolences to the Cambpell family.
Deepest sympathies to the entire Campbell family.
I meant Scott so many years ago when I first moved to COBOURG and worked with Vicki. Scott was larger than life and had a smile as wide as the ocean. The last time a saw Scott was a few years back, this smiling guy drove into the parking lot at Foodland in a snazzy sport car . I looked over and he recognized me , we had a chat , I remember thinking when we parted our conversation such a gem of a man. My condolences go out to Chere and the entire family who loved and adored Scott.
My deepest condolences for Scott’s family and loved ones for this profound loss. He was a visionary and icon in the electricity sector in Ontario and beyond. It was an honour to have known him. May we all have nothing but fond memories of him. Robert Wong

Knowing Scott in many capacities over my 46 year tenure in the energy industry, it was an absolute pleasure and something I cherished deeply and will remember fondly. Very early on I met Scott through my mentor, boss, and years on my business partner, the late great Stan Beesley! Scott right from day one offered leadership, insights, laughter, and loyal friendship! Few match up to the greatness of Scott Campbell, and I consider it one of life's blessings to say he was a good friend! Samantha and I will miss him greatly and remember him fondly forever! Rest in Peace, Scott and God Bless You!
Chere and family please accept my deepest condolences.

My deepest condolences Chere and family. We have lost a true gentleman, a friend and a strong partner for our industry. God bless you, you will be missed.
I'm so sorry to hear of Scott's passing. In the late 80's, Scott was instrumental in my being hired as a sales rep for Ilsco where I remained until I retired. Time spent with Scott frequently resulted in a story we could reminisce and laugh about as the years went by. He was a sharp business man who brought a humanity to the role. He was deeply loyal to his employees, customers and suppliers who were people to Scott, not just business contacts. Scott exuded a presence in a room. A natural leader. Someone you wanted to know. I'll remember him fondly and continue to share our stories where his humour will live on in the telling. Sincere sympathies to all those touched by this loss.
Hello Chere, Caeleb, Victoria, Jamie, Darcy, Tyler, Bonnie, Doug, Kyle, Bryn, Vicki and Terry. I have met all of you at least once in my 20 years working at Grafton/HD. Your husband, dad, brother and in law has had a big impact on me, even though he was not my direct boss. For several years, I spent a few days a year on road trips and visited Florida a couple of times for "sales meetings". Scott was a kind, generous and helpful person with lots of fun spirit and plenty of get up a go to win the next order/contract. He has helped me personally and professionally and I will never forget Scott Campbell.... Every time he came into our Calgary office he went to each employees desk and shook their hand and searched for anyone who was not at their desk.. Never phony, always genuine... I will carry with me the concept of the final final and will continue to drive Nissan and Infiniti vehicles for ever... See you in the next life Scott Campbell.
So sad to hear about the loss of cousin, Scott. Such a warm, generous soul that always greeted you with a smile. Thankful to have spent our early Cobourg years together with the Dufton clan of cousins. He will be dearly missed by all. A friend to all who knew him.

Shocked to hear of Scott's passing. My Condolences to All The Family. Scott gave me my first "office cleaning "job when I started Cobourg Cleaning and Maintenance back in 1980 when he operated Grafton Utility out of Brimley Road in Grafton. Scott encouraged me in my Venture and he also gave me a lot of future opportunities to be of service to Him and and His Company. I closed by business in 2010. Rest in Peace Scott.

A generous and humble person who inspired everyone who was fortunate to know him. His infectious smile and laugh brightened the day for anyone who was fortunate to be in his presence. Family meant everything to him and his pride for each member was evident as his face lit up when talking about them. His legacy lives on through the memories he has left us with.
We are so deeply saddened by Scott’s passing. He was such a wonderful man, kind, loyal, full of life, and genuinely warm and generous, someone you could spend hours with. I’m so sorry Chere. Scotty was a great guy, always had fun when I was around him. i’m so glad I was able to know him.. Love you❤️❤️
From the early days of chasing pucks in the Cobourg Church Hockey League to experiencing the fun and challenges of making it to class on time at CDCI East, Scott and I were good pals in simpler times. We were ushers at each other's weddings and he was my daughter's godfather. Scott was a " foxhole" friend, always there to help with a problem and lighten the mood with his larger than life laugh. In the early days, there was mischief....lots of mischief followed by a respected business career and a " Campbell sized " family. I am sad that my " in the day " pal is gone but as I type this, I am smiling as all the stories and shared life events tumble back to me. I am honored to have shared in a small part of Scott's well lived life. RIP my friend.
What a wonderful man and friend. It's hard to believe he's gone. We had so many adventures and amazing memories. Sending our love to Chere and the whole Campbell family. In the days ahead may you take comfort in knowing just how special and loved Scott was. Love Mark and Cinde
Sorry to learn of Scotts passing. It has been many years since the last time I have seen Scott .I think the last time was on the main street in Haliburton while I was delivering. On this busy summer day came this voice from a crowd of people you are a long way from Baltimore and there appeared Scott. Regards Doug Linton

I was privileged to know Scott and I am very sorry to hear of his passing. MY condolences to the Campbell family.
I (Ted) first met Scott in the early 1970's when he and my brother Don were drywalling my kitchen. I've always considered Scott a friend and although we didn't see each other often, we reconnected whenever our paths crossed. With our deepest sympathies to Scott's family and all his friends who will miss him so much.
