Michael Eugene Moore, 81, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, at Ed’s House Hospice Care Centre in Cobourg, Ontario with his wife and children by his side.
Born in Castleton, Ontario, Michael was the son of the late Harry and Shirley Moore (nee Pomeroy). He and his four siblings grew up in Castleton, where his family owned and operated the local General Store. He met his wife, Diane Moore (nee Gillette), while attending Brighton High School, and they were happily married for 63 years.
Together, they moved to Cobourg and raised their children, Kelly Van Slyke (Doug), and Richard Moore. Michael was a proud grandfather to Amanda, Cody, Meghan, and Katlyn, and to four great-grandchildren.
He was the eldest brother to Yvonne Doherty, Peter Moore (Marilyn), the late Terry Moore (Linda), and Elaine Liggins, and will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, who lovingly referred to him as Uncle Mike. He was also a dear brother-in-law to Diane’s siblings, Wayne Gillette (Janice) and the late Gary Gillette.
Known for his strong work ethic, Michael worked as a Senior Construction Technician at TSH for over 50 years. He was a sports enthusiast who played local hockey and baseball for many years, forming lasting friendships along the way. He was an avid golfer and looked forward to his winters in Florida each year. A dedicated Toronto Maple Leafs fan, he remained loyal through every season.
Mike was the life of every party he attended. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit and infectious laugh. A man of faith, he lived with kindness and loyalty and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Donations in Michael’s memory may be made to Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre in Cobourg.

My Uncle Mike was an absolute legend. I learned a lot from him over the years. I looked up to him as a father figure. We shared lots of good times on the golf course, laughs together and ribbing each other over our favorite hockey teams (no matter what he was a diehard Leafs fan). May you rest in peace Captain.
I’ve known Mike for many years. I was associated with Mike coaching hockey. Playing hockey and ball. Even refereed him many times. I have much respect for him. He will be missed. Always a laugh was shared. My condolences to his wonderful family. Rip Mike
Mike was my closest friend from grade3-7 in Castleton. We spent a great deal of time together. Wonderful friend even if it was almost 70 years that we did not see each other. Rest in peace friend. Deep condolences to the Moore family.

Diane Kelly and Rick so sorry for your loss. A chance meeting on a bus in Toronto heading to the airport turned into travelling companions for many years. The guys played hockey together and couldn't wait to be old enough to play Old Timer hockey. The golf clubs were always packed to play no matter where the journey took us. What great memories and lots of pictures. Sadly missed Mike.

Dear Diane I was saddened to hear of Mike’s passing. I had the privilege of working with him at TSH, and I wanted to reach out and share how much he meant to me. Mike was a true gentleman. His friendly nature made it so easy to get to know him, and I feel incredibly lucky to have benefited from his wealth of knowledge. He was always so generous with his expertise in the engineering and construction industries, and I will always value the time I spent learning from him. Although I haven’t seen him much in the last several years, the impact he had on my career and the kind way he treated everyone around him is something I’ll never forget. Wishing you and your family peace, comfort, and strength during this difficult time. With my deepest sympathy, Andrew Harvey

I moved to Cobourg in 1974, and Mike was the first person I met when joining TSH. His big smile and infectious laugh made me feel welcome and we quickly became good friends. We became known as "Chico" and "The Man" after the TV show at the time. Mike helped me get a good start in my career, which I will always be grateful for. We enjoyed hockey, ball and the "occassional" beer together. My condolences to Dianne and family. Rest In Peace My Friend

Diane and family, saddened to hear of Mike's passing. Mike was a fixture of the TSH office in Cobourg. When I started there as a high school student in 1999 Mike's smile and kindness helped welcome me into a job that has become my career. He contributed to so many projects in Cobourg and the surrounding area. When I pull-out an old drawing its never a surprise to see the initials M.E.M. in the bottom right corner.
I met Mike after joining TSH in 2007 as a new graduate. He was an excellent mentor and always made sure the office was a place of smiles and laughs, amongst the work. I was always impressed by Mike’s early morning and even Saturday work ethic. I carry a piece of what Mike shared in my career to this day, and am thankful for the time and respect he shared on someone 40 years his junior. His positive energy will be missed by many. Go Leafs Go.
Dear Diane and family, I was so saddened to hear about Mike’s passing. He sure was the life of the party! Such fond memories especially when we got together at parties…Diane, remember the infamous wedding and getting in trouble for singing too loud at the Christmas parties? He will be remembered fondly.
Mike was such a happy and fun loving guy and will be missed by so many.
Kelly and family, sending heartfelt condolences your way 🌷🌸 Susan & Dan

As a fellow employee of TSH for some 32 years, I had a front row seat to seeing Mike's work ethic and his contagious laugh and sense of humour. Always first at his desk each day, he was a source of support and experience to new staff over the years. He carried his skills onto the golf course where he made being in his company a pleasure, no matter what the score. My condolences Diane, to you and your family. Roy Kempton
