Michael Eugene Moore, 81, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, at Ed’s House Hospice Care Centre in Cobourg, Ontario with his wife and children by his side.
Born in Castleton, Ontario, Michael was the son of the late Harry and Shirley Moore (nee Pomeroy). He and his four siblings grew up in Castleton, where his family owned and operated the local General Store. He met his wife, Diane Moore (nee Gillette), while attending Brighton High School, and they were happily married for 63 years.
Together, they moved to Cobourg and raised their children, Kelly Van Slyke (Doug), and Richard Moore. Michael was a proud grandfather to Amanda, Cody, Meghan, and Katlyn, and to four great-grandchildren.
He was the eldest brother to Yvonne Doherty, Peter Moore (Marilyn), the late Terry Moore (Linda), and Elaine Liggins, and will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, who lovingly referred to him as Uncle Mike. He was also a dear brother-in-law to Diane’s siblings, Wayne Gillette (Janice) and the late Gary Gillette.
Known for his strong work ethic, Michael worked as a Senior Construction Technician at TSH for over 50 years. He was a sports enthusiast who played local hockey and baseball for many years, forming lasting friendships along the way. He was an avid golfer and looked forward to his winters in Florida each year. A dedicated Toronto Maple Leafs fan, he remained loyal through every season.
Mike was the life of every party he attended. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit and infectious laugh. A man of faith, he lived with kindness and loyalty and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
