Lloyd Ross Williams

June 10, 1936 - March 8, 2026

It is with sadness, but with gratitude, that the family of Lloyd Ross Williams announces his passing on Sunday March 8, 2026, at the age of 89 at Ed’s House Hospice.

Lloyd was the loving husband to Barbara Williams for over 65 years. He was the father of Laura Izzard (Ian), Glenn Williams (Linda) and Grant Williams (Tammy); cherished grandfather of Cameron Izzard (Cassandra), Heather Izzard (Andrew), Mary Williams, Katie Williams, (Nathan), and Sarah Williams. Brother-in-law to David Cooper (Donnalyn). Lloyd is predeceased by his brother Bruce in 1974.

Born in 1936 in Listowel Ontario to Rose Matthews and Alan Williams. He was a few months old when he moved to Oshawa Ontario where he grew up.

Lloyd was a proud supporter of his family. Whether through encouragement for school, scouting and guiding groups, swimming lessons, or leadership led by his example and instilled values of hard work and integrity.

Lloyd was a hard worker all his life and valued community involvement greatly. One of his most cherished achievements for community volunteer service was receiving the Caring Canadian Award by the Governor General of Canada.

As a resident of Cobourg for over 60 years he became very actively involved in the Hamilton Township and Cobourg municipal councils as a councillor, Deputy Reeve and Reeve for nearly 30 years combined. He also served for 17 years on the board of the Community Living Association.

Lloyd was active in the Trinity United Church congregation through chairing various committees, the church council, and property maintenance. In addition, he was a presbytery rep and the chairperson to Cobourg Presbytery and on Bay of Quinte Conference committees for 23 years. A significant part of his volunteer work was the development of Trinity Place non-profit apartment building which stands there today at James and John Streets. In addition, he was an active member of the Cobourg Chapter of Habitat for Humanity and oversaw the renovation and rebuilding of 28 homes in Cobourg.

Lloyd was an elementary and secondary teacher from 1965-1989 when he retired from CDCI East highschool. Much of his later teaching was as the head librarian.

Lloyd supported his son Glenn’s development of Cobourg’s first recycling program. Lloyd was also his daughter’s champion as she explored her education overseas. After his retirement, Lloyd founded Willbuilt Construction with his son Grant. He completed local home construction and renovation projects.

Lloyd and his wife Barbara loved adventures and were often away traveling near and far. They enjoyed camping with the tent trailer, cottaging, and worldwide cruising.

Friends and family will be received at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King Street East, Cobourg on Friday March 20th 2:00-4:00PM and 6:00-8:00 PM for visitation. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Trinity United Church, 284 Division Street, Cobourg on Saturday March 21st at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Church Cobourg or Ed’s House Hospice.

Gladys Morris - March 10, 2026

Mr. Williams was a deeply respected community minded man. He served on Hamilton Township council with my Dad, Gordon Carruthers, and I got to know him better as a teacher/librarian at CDCI East. Later he and Richard Randall started the weekly suppers at Trinity for anyone in need. He treated everyone with honesty and respect. He will be missed

Lloyd was such a treasure. A shining example of a man that walked in his integrity. His committment to serving others and this community was admirable. I will be forever grateful to have met Llyod. I am a 26 year tenant at Trinity Place. Lloyd was a significant part of bringing Trinity non-profit housing to this community. He served on the board of directors, which is how I got to know him over the years. He was firm, fair, logical, kind and wonderful in his role. He treated everyone with respect and dignity and he loved to share his wisdom. I had the pleasure of many wonderful conversations over the years with Lloyd. We talked about family, politics, community service, generational struggles, future plans and of course Trinity Place. Lloyd loved to good chat! I will never forget how lovingly he spoke of his Mother as he recalled his childhood and shared stories. My deepest condolences to Lloyd's family. May the legacy he leaves behind in his many accomplishments and the difference he made in so many lives comfort you. He was a great man and he will be remembered at Trinity Place fondly and with deep respect.
