It is with the heaviest of hearts we announce the passing of Roy at the age of 89. He was born and raised in London, England, and met the love of his life in 1954. Through perseverance he won her heart and Pauline and Roy were married on March 29, 1958. In 1969 they started a new life in Canada with their 2 young boys. Able to combine his passion for driving with a career, he spent several decades chauffeuring before ‘retiring’ at 54. A second career ensued with a summertime landscaping business, allowing for winters down south. A natural storyteller, Roy loved to share tales of his adventures and misadventures, and we loved to hear them. People often commented that he could write a book or two. In Roy’s words, he had a good life and a good wife – a life filled with laughter, love, and memories, with Pauline at his side. There were many moves, but after a health scare 2 years ago a move to Cobourg allowed for some additional quality family time, for which we are so grateful. Roy faced the end as he faced life – with humour and dignity. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by love. Roy will be missed beyond measure but will live in our hearts forever. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Northumberland Hills Hospital who truly went above and beyond, taking such good care of Roy, especially Dr. Mulé who led us so kindly through the final stages. At Roy’s request, there will be no service. He wanted nothing fancy – in his words “just bake and shake”. He might prefer you raise a glass in his honour and, if desired, make a donation to Northumberland Hills Hospital
