Marie Sarah Rose Maughan at Streamway Villa, with family by her side, on Wednesday February 11, 2026.
Marie was born April 6, 1951 as the youngest child of Frank and Lillian Tinney (nee Prentice), raised on the home farm in Plainville with her siblings. She is survived by her siblings Robert (late Dorthea), John (Phyllis) and Donnie. Predeceased by Charlie (late Gloria), Gordon and Doris (late Ron). One of her proudest accomplishments during this time was her involvement in the 4H community, both as a participant and leader.
As a young adult, Marie started her own family, welcoming Tina (Greg), Patricia (Ian) and Keith (Miranda). Her days were filled with sports, school events, neighbourhood gatherings and family snowmobile outings. The arrival of her granddaughter Megan elevated her to the role of Grandma.
It was in Plainville that Marie met Londa Robinson, beginning a lifelong friendship filled with laughter, blended families, and countless memories. Together, they navigated good times and bad, always finding joy in each other’s company.
Marie’s determination led her to return to school and pursue her dream of becoming a hairdresser. She spent many years caring for her clients. Truly loving her work and the connections she made.
Later in life, health challenges prompted Marie’s retirement and a move back to the Northumberland area. There, she found companionship with Joe Roy, and together they enjoyed road trips, music festivals, campfires and peaceful evenings. Their time together brought new smiles and treasured moments.
Marie’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers who made her comfortable in her final months. We take comfort in knowing she is now at peace, perhaps enjoying a hot cup of coffee with a smoke, tapping her toe to country music, catching up on gossip and watching over us.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and her ashes will be placed with her family at Pioneer Cemetery in the spring.
Donations in memory of Marie may be made to Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre.
