Peacefully, at Northumberland Hills Hospital, on Wednesday January 14, 2026 with her family by her side. Karen was the beloved wife of Lloyd, loving mother of Carrie-Anne (John), Jeremy, and Shaelan (Angela), and cherished grandmother of Ethan, Skylar, Renee, Mason, and Emma. She was the dear sister of Francis (Lynn) Prentice and Joan (Bill) Stover. Karen will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews and extended family. She is predeceased by her parents Harold and Beatrice Prentice.
Karen had a 40 + year career with the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. She held many roles over the years, including Head Secretary at C. R. Gummow Public School in Cobourg. These times were a source of joy and fulfillment for Karen, and she truly valued the many friendships she formed there.
Karen lived her life with a deep love for, and an unwavering devotion to, her family. She was our biggest cheerleader and constant supporter, and we never doubted for a minute her love for us. Her faith was strong, and she taught us by steady example.
A funeral service will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, Grafton, on Saturday January 24, 2026 at 11:00 am, with visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 am in the church hall. Interment in St. George’s Cemetery in the spring. Donations to St. George’s Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family. Please include your mailing address if making a donation by e-transfer.
Sincere thanks to the staff at Northumberland Hills Hospital, in particular nurses Merissa and Katy, who showed such compassion and care to Karen during her final hospital stay.
Dear Joan & Family of Karen, it is with sadness we read of the passing of your dear sister. Remember the happy times sure there is many memories of these. R.I.P. Karen, I was fortunate to have known you.
I am very sorry for your loss. Karen was so nice to speak with whether it was as a parent, a friend in the street, at the church or calling Gummow school for advice, she always made the conversation fun and uplifting with her light humour, laugh and positiveness. Keeping you in my prayers and thoughts.

Karen meant so many things to so many people. What stands out for me is how she would quietly advocate for students who needed our school most. Her kindness will live on in the hearts of so many of us who had the joy of working with her.

My sincerest condolences to all Karen’s family. I had the pleasure of working with Karen for many years at KPR and in the unions there, UFCW and CUPE. She had this gentle but effective way of getting a point across, and always with a smile. She will be missed. Rest in peace Karen.
Karen was a presence, a gift, a genuine person. She was the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). So blessed to have worked alongside her and to have been one of her thousands of sweeties!!!

My deepest condolences to Karen's family. I had the pleasure of working with Karen for many, many years at C.R. Gummow. Karen was a calm, serene presence - but she had a dry sense of humour and a cheeky side. She would often tease me about my refusal to enter the parking lot through the "exit" (as she herself did regularly so early in the morning). Rest in peace, Karen!
My heart is with you all. Karen will be so missed. She has become one of our angels now.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Joan and the family at this sad time. Karen is now with the angels and out of pain and her memory will go on forever. 💜
My deepest condolences to the Linkie and Prentice families. You are in my thoughts.
Mom and I send our deepist condolences to you all.
Linkie and Prentice families Jeff and I send our deepest condolences to all of Karens family. She was always smiling and a joy to sit with and chat to at hockey when our boys played together. We are thinking of everyone at this very sad time

Karen gave so much of herself over the years - not only to her family, but to generations of students, parents, and staff. My deepest condolences to Karen's family.
I taught at CRG for 25 years, and when I joined the staff as a wet behind the ears new teacher, Karen treated me like a member of her own family. She was kind and patient, always willing to listen and to encourage. Despite the tremendous amount of work she had to do, she always had time for “her sweeties”. Karen loved her family, her church and her school community and we are all blessed to have known her.

Dear Carrie-Anne, Jeremy and Shaelan; My heartfelt condolences for the loss of your mom. She was a lovely person. I hope your memories brings you peace and comfort. Sincerely, Lynda Reid (a friend from high school)
Karen and I worked together for about 10 years. She started calling me Scotty during that time. Our work environment was sometimes very chaotic causing us to dissolve into fits of laughter at the end of the day. It's those times that I will remember. Karen was very professional but also lots of fun! It's so sad for her family to lose such a gem. My condolences to you all.
To Joan and Family... I'm so very sorry to hear about your sister Karen's passing. I know how close you two have been all your lives, as our parents were close friends, long before any of us were born. I know how devastating it is to lose your only sister, since I lost mine only two weeks ago. No matter how ill they've been or how you think you have accepted their approaching passing, it still breaks your heart. My deepest sympathy on your loss and I hope that your memories will help sustain you as you go through the process of losing your dear sister.

Dear Joan, family and friends I was so sad to hear of Karen's passing. She was a kind and gentle soul. Rest in peace Karen. Hugs, Bernice
My condolences to all of Karen’s loved ones. Karen and I worked together for many years at C.R. Gummow. I always admired her work ethic, her integrity and her special way that only Karen could do to brighten someone’s day. She was often the first to show up and the last to leave. Nothing was ever too much for Karen. I remember when she would hand deliver messages or paperwork to our classrooms because she needed “a few extra steps”. One of the many things I learned about Karen, was her deep love for her family. Here eyes lit up as she spoke about all of you. She was enormously proud. May all of your wonderful memories give you peace and comfort during this very sad and difficult time.

My heartfelt condolences to Karen's family. I worked with Karen at C.R. Gummow for 13 years and have many fond memories of that time. In a small, cramped office we got to know and support each other very well, and share laughs along the way. Karen cared deeply about the people she worked with, showing kindness and understanding or going the extra mile to help out in her calm, unflappable way. Helping to decorate the float for the Santa Claus parade on the weekend or collecting a staff member whose car broke down or providing a lunch for a student were just a few examples. She will be sorely missed and I hope your warm memories will carry you through this difficult time.
My condolences to the Linkie, Stover and Prentice families on the passing of Karen. She always had a moment for a quick hello or a wave hello.
