Marla Mae LaFrance peacefully passed away at her home in Port Hope, Ontario on December 30th, 2025, at the age of 86. She has been joyfully reunited with her beloved husband of 66 years, Jim, who passed away just four months prior.
Born on July 21, 1939, in Highland Creek, Ontario, Marla is survived by her four sons: Darrell, Robin, David, and Jamie; daughters-in-law Alison, Terry, Lori, and Kathy; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Marla exemplified love especially as a mother and grandmother, leaving a legacy of kindness and compassion.
Marla was the cherished daughter of the late Ronald and Myrtle Forde. She was predeceased by her siblings Donna and Ronald Joseph, and leaves behind her sister Gloria, and her loving family who will forever carry her spirit in their hearts.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Marla lived a life rich in love and service. She was a talented homemaker, a skilled knitter and seamstress, and for many years worked as a cosmetician. She was known for her grace and impeccable style.
Marla always made time to listen and was deeply interested in the lives of her family. She found joy in life’s simple things: searching for the first robin of spring, tending her garden, and creating crafts.
Her grandchildren will fondly remember the scarves, sweaters, and hats she lovingly knitted for them. Her family loved her famous chocolate cake, red soup, meat and apple pies. Marla enjoyed time at the cottage near Baysville, Ontario.
Marla will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, located at 30 King Street East, Cobourg, Ontario.
