Passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025 at Campbellford Memorial Hospital in his 86th year. Jerry grew up a farmer’s son and learned early the value of hard work, occasionally even able to skip out on his mother’s class’s at the schoolhouse for the month of September, as the fields needed him more than the classroom. He spent his younger years hunting and trapping with his best friend, Jackie Minifie, and briefly entertained dreams of becoming a pool shark. After being introduced to Lorraine by Jackie and his girlfriend Shirley, Jerry wisely abandoned that career path, married Lorraine and headed for “the big smoke”. He attended the University of Toronto to become an accountant, though several years in the city proved he was no city boy. With their two sons, they relocated to the Quinte region, and Jerry ran one of the area’s first freeway service stations for 27 years. When that chapter closed, Jerry realized he was happiest outdoors, working with his hands. He spent the final 15 years of his working life tending many of Trenton’s public flower beds, keeping them looking “tickety-boo.” Jerry and Lorraine spent retirement in the Frankford home he built. They joined the seniors club and Jerry maintained the flower beds at the Frankford and Batawa churches. After Lorraine’s passing in 2018, Jerry was compassionately cared for by the staff at Caressant Care in Marmora. Jerry was predeceased by his wife Lorraine, his parents Joseph and Anastasia, his son Mark Peter, and sister Joan (the late Vern Blair). He is survived by his children Daniel, Joe, Susan (the late Charles Dopking) and Lisa; his cherished grandchildren Ryan and Sabrina; and his great-grandson Rowan. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Cobourg in the spring. Interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
My deepest sympathy
Our sincere condolences from the Minifie family
