The legacy which Art left at the West Collegiate lived long after he retired and continues to thrive in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His many quiet acts of kindness made a huge difference to staff and students; he never sought praise or recognition for them- he offered his support in a truly aultruistic manner. He was the kindest man and a teacher who imparted a love of learning and a love of science in his students. Our condolences to the Delgarno family on your immense loss. Caroline and Brian McNamara

As a teacher Art had a way of pulling his students into the moment. He used humour, bets, and challenges to help us do well. He was quite a character and I am sure all who knew him will find the world a little bit dull now that he has moved on. Hugs to family and friends.

Dear Nancy, Nancy Jane, Jennifer, Jeff, and Andy, Cindy and I were deeply saddened to hear that Art had passed. He was so likeable. Art was a genuine and sincere gentleman who was always attentive to what you were saying. Everyone loved Art! He taught high school chemistry and was a well respected teacher. Definitely he was one of a kind. A man who treated every student with respect and encouraged them to do their best! I had Mr. Dalgarno as a science teacher in Grade 9 and a chemistry teacher in Grade 12 and 13, in the late 60’s. He inspired in me a lifelong love of science that remains a part of me today. I will never forget him.
Nancy and families. Very sadden to read of Arts passing. May your memories help carry you through this time and realize the wonderful life you had together.
The pew two behind me on Sundays somehow seems empty. Althought good people are filling it up, I miss Art. From the early days in the sixties when we were together trying to encourage family life education, to the more recent years when we jumped ship to St. Peter's, Art has been a faithful, smiling, kind man who gave his all until he couldn't. Nancy and family, you are joined in your mourning by so many others...all of us ready to support you.
Our condolences to Jen and family. Rest in peace

Mrs. D and the entire Dalgarno family: My heartfelt condolences to you all. I was so deeply saddened to hear that Mr. D had passed away. I was fortunate to have grown up with Mr. and Mrs. D as my neighbours, although more like family. I have many fond memories at your place in Baltimore, and later in Cobourg. Mr. D always had a funny story to share about his dearly loved students, or a round of golf, and his bright, booming laugh is so clear in my memory. Much love to you all.
Dalgarnos, very sorry for your loss. As someone who came into CDCI West in grade 11, I found it to be a great experience and had the pleasure of being a student in Mr. D's class. He had such a positive outlook and treated his students with such respect and made learning fun. Great man, great teacher.

We were saddened to hear of Arts passing. Our deepest condolences to the Dalgarno family. Remembering him as a fellow teacher and golfer and have such fond memories of our Daytona travels with both Art and Nancy.
Dear Dalgarno Family, Please accept my heartfelt condolences on Art's passing. I know his absence will be deeply felt by all of you. I have so many fond memories connecting our families—from teachers' Christmas parties to walking the halls of CDCI West, and those early morning rounds at Dalewood. I like to imagine Art and my dad, Bev, are somewhere now enjoying a perfect first tee or swapping stories at the 19th hole. May your cherished memories of Art bring you comfort in the days ahead.
To Mrs Dalgarno, Nancy, Jennifer, and Andy. Please accept my condolence on the loss of Mr. Dalgarno. His name is very well known as is his legacy and reputation as an outstanding person. Just reading the testaments and condolences below exemplify this. Please know you are in the communities thoughts! RIP... Terry
Mr. Dalgarno, taught chemistry at CDCI West in '86. I still remember him telling the class not long before we were all about to Graduate; that we should cherish this time together with our friends, because we would soon all be off to our separate lives, and these moments in High School would never come again. A good way to live your whole life I'd say. He genuinely cared for his students. My deepest condolences to his loved ones. RIP Mr. Dalgarno.
Nancy and family. I was deeply saddened to hear of Art’s passing. Sending my sincere condolences. Joanne
Mr. Delgarno was one of my favourite teachers! He taught me chemistry when I was at CDCI West during 1993-1994 and 1994-1995 school years. I loved that I got a sticker on my quiz bangs when I did well. I know he was a favourite teacher to many students and made positive impact on us. Sending my sincerest condolences to his family. He was loved by all ❤️

Our deepest condolences on the loss of Art. After reading all the wonderful messages we can say he truly was a mountain of a man to so many people. Of course, his smile and twinkle in the eyes and hearty laughter brought smiles to us all. We always enjoyed surprise meetings at The Red Rice and at family gatherings. Dave’s mom, Alice Johnson, sure thought the world of him as well. She would want to share her wishes too. We hope warm memories will guide you through this sad time.

My sincere condolences to the family and so many friends. 'Mr. Dalgarno' was instrumental in charting the course of my life with his love of science and teaching. It was his enthusiasm and encouragement that made me believe I could study science and medicine. Even while cooking dinner I think of the chemical reactions taking place in the pot. I know so much of the world thanks to his insights. Like all great teachers, he will never be forgotten.
To the Delgarno family: please accept our most sincere condolences with Art's passing. During my few, brief meetings with Art, it was obvious that he loved to laugh, loved his family even more, and pretty much knew everyone around. Stories about life at the West are also epic! Cathy and I were saddened by the news of Mr. D's passing. He was a man that made the world a better place. Always smiling and scheming back in the day. So many memories come flashing back when I heard the news. As a 10th grade kid you don't expect a chemistry class to start by Mr. D throwing a test tube across the room and seeing it shatter into a million places. Mr. D then asks ok... what kind of reaction was that? 30plus kids were now locked in and we never looked back. I had grad students in University ask me why I underlined all my headings on my lab reports. I would tell them Mr. D taught me that. He made a difference in my life and I will always remember Mr. D. Now later in our lives Cathy and I have watched our youngest son develop a relationship with Mr. D and Nancy. Our son's favorite customers are most definitely the Dalgarnos.
Nancy and family, my deepest condolences to you during this difficult time. Art was such a kind man, he will be deeply missed. Thinking of you all. Love the Adams family.

My deepest condolences to Nancy and the family. Keep your memories of Art close and you have many fantastic memories of him. He always had a chuckle for friends and students. As a teacher, he was one of the exceptional ones being a mentor and educator in and out of the classroom. It's with deep sadness that I say to Art RIP.
To all the Dalgarnos, Glenn and I are so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Art was great fun on staff at the West. I think one of the most memorable situations was the little red car in the foyer of the school. An April Fools day prank that backfired on the students. Art always liked to get the last laugh.
Our sincerely condolences to Nancy and all of Art's Family. Many fond memories of Art first as my chemistry teacher then as a friend through church and as my son's chemistry teacher. My son always said Mr Dalgarno prepared him the best for university of any teacher. May your happy memories sustain you all through this difficult time. Allan and Debbie Elder
My sincerest condolences to the Dalgarno family especially Jeff. Your father was a respected member of the West High School faculty and was a fair and level minded man who never suffered fools...for any length of time. Again my sincerest condolences at the passing of a memorable person who left an indelible and positive mark in my formative years.

My husband, David Mitchell, was fortunate to have Art as his high school chemistry teacher, and he credited him with igniting an interest in chemistry, which he pursued at university before his lifelong career as a research chemist. I hope Art knew what a strong mentor he was to his students.

Nancy and family, sending our deepest condolences. I remember getting rides to the golf course with Art and Bev Howard after school. Art would tell me that Bev would shoot a 78. My sons went to CDCI West and often brought home stories of the wonderful things Mr. Dalgarno was doing - like giving an outrageously large donation to some important school project. He was one of the outstanding teachers at that wonderful school, and many lives were touched in a positive way - including the many who benefited from his basketball coaching
My condolences for the Dalgarno family and friends. Mr. Dalgarno was my favorite teacher in all of my school education. He taught me chemistry so well that I tutored half of my class in college because I already knew everything in advance because Arthur taught his high school chemistry students so well.
