Peacefully on Thursday December 11th 2025 at Ed’s House, Cobourg, with family by his side.
Loved husband of Heather (Eagleson) for 54 years. Proud father of Daxton, Marcia Young (Norm), Aaron, (Diana) and Trisha (Neil Brown). Much loved grandpa of Lauren and Brier Young, Daxton Jr and Nikolas McDonald, Emma and Charlee McDonald.
Predeceased by brothers Roger and Ed, and parents Leo and Eleanor McDonald.
Brother of Rosalie Clarke (Greg) Brother-in-law of Rosemary McDonald, David and Sharon Eagleson, Bryce and Susan Eagleson.
Dalton will be missed by many nieces and nephews, extended family, friends and neighbours.
Dalton was a successful tobacco farmer, business owner at Dalton McDonald Motors and a proud member of the Alnwick Haldimand Township Council for 20 years as Councillor, deputy Reeve and then Mayor.
He loved the Centreton Road and said he’d live anywhere as long as it was on that road. He spent many coffee breaks at Scenery Drive Restaurant where he met friends and neighbours and got caught up with the community news.
Our heartfelt thanks to the fantastic nursing team at NHH chemo and ambulatory care units- our Angels! Also, to Dr Vasanthamohan, Dr Mulé and Dr Tisher for all their expert advice and care during Dalton’s illness. Finally, to the compassionate staff at Eds House for their kindness and compassion during the final days.
Donations to NHH Chemo Clinic or Eds House Northumberland Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
Graveside service at Coldspring’s Pioneer Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at Coldspring’s Memorial Hall will take place in spring 2026.

Our families have a long history of neighbourly friendship as Daltons father Leo and our father Ted were good friends way back in the tobacco farming days in Centreton . I will always remember Dalton as a kind friendly person that would always take time to chat whenever we bumped into each other, usually at Tims or Scenery Drive. You are all in my thoughts, RIP Dalton!

Over the years, I got to know Dalton through his business and during his political life. In recent years, we were both parishioners at St. Mary's Roman Catholic church in Grafton. I always enjoyed our brief chats before or after mass each Saturday. He was a well-respected member of the Alnwich-Haldimand community who gave tirelessly of his time serving the residents of our community in many capacities.
