Engelbert Anton Hirt

Engelbert passed away peacefully at the age of 92, early on December 4, 2025 with family by his side at Northumberland Hills Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sylvia as well as his daughters Barbara (Trevor) and Andrea (Tim). He will also be greatly missed by his beloved grandchildren Emilie and Nickolas. Born in Vienna, Austria, Bert lived a long and varied life. Having lived through WW2, he emigrated to Canada in 1957. He worked in Peterborough at Outboard Marine and then at General Electric for many years. Bert was an avid woodcarver, and in his spare time he was rarely seen without a chisel (or a chainsaw!) in his hand. He lived in Millbrook for many years, and more recently in Cobourg, to be nearer to his family. His was a life well-lived, and he will always be cherished, never to be forgotten. Special thanks go to Keith from the Northumberland Community Paramedics, Dr. Carr and the incredible nurses who cared for Bert during his short stay at Northumberland Hills Hospital. As per Bert’s wishes there will not be a formal service. Donations made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or the Northumberland Hills Hospital in Bert’s name would be appreciated.
