Rick passed away peacefully at Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre in Cobourg, surrounded by the love of his family, after a very short decline in health.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Rick spent most of his life there before moving to Cobourg in 2011. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack (2004) and Violet Perks (2019). Rick will be deeply missed by his loving wife Marilyn, his cherished daughter Valerie (Joe), and his adored granddaughters Tara (Spencer) and Breanna. He is also survived by his sister Linda (the late John), his brother Allan (Lynda), and his many nieces and nephews.
Rick attended Ellesmere Public School and Winston Churchill Collegiate Institute in Scarborough. Over the years, he built a hardworking and loyal career, first with Sangamo (1973–1996) as a forklift operator and quality control inspector, and later with F.B. Feeney Hardware Ltd. (1998–2008) as a shipper/receiver.
A man of quiet integrity and good humour, Rick was known for always doing things “the right way — Rick’s way.” He loved spending time at the cottage, where he enjoyed relaxing by the water and fishing, one of his lifelong passions. He was also an avid coin collector and took great joy in his daily scratch tickets. Roast beef dinners and black forest cake were among his favourites, and he never missed a chance to enjoy both with family.
Rick will be fondly remembered by his many friends and neighbours for his kindness, sense of humour, and willingness to lend a helping hand. The local corner store will surely miss his daily visits for lottery tickets.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mulé and the compassionate nurses, PSWs, and volunteers at Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre for their exceptional care and support during Rick’s final days.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King Street East, Cobourg, Ontario. Visitation begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., and a reception to follow.

Rick will be remembered always as a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend — a man who lived life with humour, heart, and integrity, and who found peace by the water with a fishing rod in hand.
