It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret Ann Young at Ed’s House Hospice in Cobourg. She was in her 80th year and fought a courageous battle with dementia.
Born in Hull, England, Margaret was the loved daughter of the late Bertha and Douglas Pope and the beloved sister to the late Robert Pope (late Maureen).
Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Dan, with whom she shared 39 wonderful years. She was the devoted mother of David (Sherri) and Michael and cherished step-mother to Buffy (George). She will be deeply missed by her granddaughters, Audrey and Samantha as well as step-grandmother to Thomas, Daniel and Nicholas.
Throughout her life in Canada, Margaret shared her many talents through a variety of roles, including her positions as Simpson’s, Woolco and North York Hospital. She was also a proud small business owner, demonstrating her love of art and cooking, running both “Basket Delights” and “Mike’s Café” in Uxbridge.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff and volunteers at Ed’s House Hospice for their exceptional care and comfort during Margaret’s final days.
Margaret lived her life to the fullest even after being diagnosed with dementia. She will be remembered for her kind and compassionate demeanour and her wonderful sense of humour. Margaret was a beautiful woman in everyway; she was one of a kind. Her memory will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched. Margaret will be sincerely missed by all those she has left behind.
Cremation has taken place and the details of a celebration of life will be announced in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre, Cobourg, the Salvation Army, Cobourg, Northumberland Humane Society, or Scott’s Mission, Toronto.
