Dorothy "Evelyn" Koster

May 8, 1935 - August 31, 2025

Dorothy Evelyn Koster (née Rutledge) passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025, surrounded by her family, at the age of 90.
Born on May 8, 1935, in Toronto, Evelyn grew up in her beloved “Beach” where she attended Balmy Beach School and Malvern High School. The friends she met there remained her closest, sharing vacations, family celebrations and lifelong memories. Thank you Donna, Debbie, Nancy, Pam, and Anne for bringing so much joy and laughter to Evelyn’s life.
In 1962 Evelyn married Peter Koster and together they raised two children in Toronto before later moving to Lakefield, where Evelyn found joy in living near the water. That continued wherever she travelled, from driving the RV to the Florida Keys with her young children, and then later retiring and spending winters in Florida. Family was Evelyn’s greatest pride, a devoted mother to Anne (late Curtis Crawford) and Peter (Martha), and a cherished grandmother to Joseph, Anthony, Elise, Emma and Declan.
She pursued a career in nursing and later in life earned a second degree in English Literature from Trent University. She loved reading and often gifted books she loved to friends and family. Evelyn also loved to share her passion for knitting and quilting. The family has many quilts to remember her by, each one made especially for them.
Evelyn will be remembered for her warmth, her creativity, her loyalty to friends, and her unwavering devotion to her family.
At Evelyn’s request, funeral arrangements will be private, with interment at Cobourg Union Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Peter.

MESSAGES OF CONDOLENCE / DONATIONS

Andrea Blanken Atkinson - September 21, 2025

I’m so sorry to hear about Aunt Evelyn. She was always so good to me, making a beautiful quilt and sending books and cards after my Mum passed. I will miss you. Andrea

Mary Ray - September 17, 2025

I met Evie in Kindergarten at Balmy Beach School and we were good friends along with Anne Adams all through public school. At Malvern we found different groups and later when I moved away from Toronto we quite lost touch. However, after many years and different lives we got together again thanks to Debbie and Donna. Since my cousins were living at the same Amica in Ottawa I visited with Evie whenever I was there. Evie was such a fun person to be with and I was so happy to see her again. My condolences to all the family as I know how much you will miss her lovely personality. Mary Ray
