On August 21, 2025 a beautiful soul rose from the timeless light where love and truth arise. Her smile illuminated our every moment. The kindness in her eyes and her gentle touch reached and lifted all who knew her. She gave us gifts more precious than anything in this world.
The power of her love will be with us always. Ruth saw the world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wildflower.
Together, Ruth and her husband Alex built 70 years of love and companionship. Side by side, they loved and nurtured their children, guiding them on their path to becoming the kind and caring adults they are today. Ruth was proud of her family and often shared stories about them with others. She leaves behind her gift of love imprinted on us all.
Ruth's legacy is one of strength and resilience. Throughout her life she did all she could to remain strong for her family - meeting each challenge with courageous strength and perserverance until her final moments. We were blessed to have shared this journey with her.
Ruth will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her and the beautiful memories she leaves behind. Her spirit and love will be forever cherished.
Her life-long love of the outdoors (gardening, camping, hiking, visiting) as well as cooking and shopping was generously shared with joy and a "do it right the first time" attitude.
Ruth is survived by her son Donald and his spouse Tracey, son James and his spouse Lynn, daughter Carolyn and her spouse Debbie, grandchildren Andrew (Victoria), Emily and Laura, sister Ella Merlin, sister Edna Waldie and husband Ken, sister Gladys Bailey and husband Joe. Ruth is also survived by in laws Doug Broomfield and wife Sue, Grace Broomfield, Norman Thornton and many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by her husband of 70 years Alex, parents Lawrence and Mabel, sister Mary, brother Norman, sister Irene McBride and husband Gordon, brother Clarence Jaynes and wife Gene, sister Dorita Thornton and brothers-in-law Jack Merlin and William Broomfield.
Ruth was the best daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend that anyone could ever ask for. She was loved dearly by an extended group of people who thought the world of her. She spent her whole life taking care of others and, in return, she was surrounded by love.
Family and friends are invited to call at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St., E., Cobourg on Saturday August 30th, from 10 am – 12 noon., followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 12 noon. Interment in Vernonville Cemetery. If desired donations may be made to Northumberland Hills Hospital.
The family would like to acknowledge the extraordinary care and support Ruth received at Extendicare Port Hope. From the moment Ruth stepped into her new home she was welcomed with open arms and blessed with great compassion.
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
And everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
Because you are
the wind beneath my wings.
