Gregory Lee Stidham

February 9, 1951 - August 11, 2025

Dr. Gregory Stidham lived a life of service to others as a paediatric ICU doctor, professor of medicine, bereavement counselor, poet, husband, father, grandfather, and dog lover. He devoted himself whole-heartedly to saving the lives of sick children and comforting those that were dying, as well as their grieving families. Greg’s caring heart and gentle, humorous spirit touched thousands upon thousands of lives, oftentimes during the most unimaginably difficult times. His legacy and love will live on in the families that he served, the readers of his poetry, and most of all in the hearts of those he left behind: his wife, Pam; his sons and their wives, Tim and Ashley, Chris and Liz; in his grandchildren, Grace, Sebastian, Sophia, Liam, Cadence, Natalie, Clara, and Cooper; in his siblings, Mark and Sheree; and in his dogs, Bear and Roxy. Greg was the hero that many people needed in the most difficult hours, and his loved ones find comfort in his spirit now in their own difficult time as they mourn his passing. Rest in Peace, Dad/Greg. Celebration of Life date and location will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to B.F.O. (Bereaved Families of Ontario).

I knew Greg late, too late in my life, and sharing post-op heart surgery children in Nicaragua. We immediately connected; and I started to enjoy his experience, wisdom, humor, his whole personality. Thank you so much Greg for all your love, and thanks to all who supported him so children could take advantage of his caring.

Mike Ferrebee - September 5, 2025

I was deeply saddened to hear about Greg’s passing. He was kind, intellectual, and compassionate, and I considered him my greatest mentor. He was godfather to my son, Tim. He will be sorely missed. He impacted this world in so many ways! It has been 30 years since I saw him but have thought of him often over the years. I was blessed to have known such a man! Prayers and blessings Mike Ferrebee

Greg, what a life you made of it! I regret losing track of you so many years ago. (We were among the 7 St. Edward grads of '69 to go on to ND.) To the family... I am so sorry for your loss, and only hope you find consolation in the heroic life Greg led. Greg's dedication, compassion, accomplishments and intellect are an inspiration to all. May he rest in peace, and peace to all of you.

Pam, We were saddened to hear of Greg’s passing. I’m so glad we were able to share time with y’all in Toronto. I have fond memories of working with Greg in Lebonheur’s ICU. He was a compassionate doctor and kind person. 💕🩷

Saleena Dakin - August 26, 2025

I was a resident and pediatric icu fellow with Greg in the late 1990’s. We continued to stay in contact and he remained a mentor to me . He was a huge support and friend and was a true hero in my life. I miss him, his wonderfully humorous emails and his constant checking in. He had been an enormous support to me and my family in these last years as my husband battles cancer -always with a note of positivity lifting us up. The world has lost a truly unique individual. Love and hugs to Pam, his sons and daughters in law and grandchildren. I will miss opening my email to his daily poems and thoughts . Rest well my friend .

Sandy Childress (maiden name Powell) - August 23, 2025

Greg you are gone too soon. You’ve been inspiring us Pediatricians for decades . Medical expertise and humanity combined with literacy and humour are seldom found together in such abundance. Thanks for choosing Kingston RIP

Greg, I can never thank you for your compassion and readiness to assist me on the worst day of my life. When you spoke it was clear that you knew about grief. You have heard it all and there must be thousands of people who carry that with them. I had hoped to see you again but had known that somehow I would not. I have no reason to know this, just that the Human Spirit still amazes me. You left a lasting impression on my Soul. My only regret is that I did not make it to your office to see you when I could. Once again we are reminded to say and do what we wish to, while we can, for who knows when the last chance has passed. I am so sad for your wonderful wife, whom you mentioned often, and your family. You always wore special t-shirts with your dogs' pictures on them and their names and you were eager to share their stories. This we had in common. You understood my sorrow for my lost loved one's dogs when I spoke of her. She heard you I know. Your smile was radiant I remember, and lit up the room. Your very first words to me in answer to my call for assistance have stayed with me, and will forever, they will remain between us, in keeping with your belief in the sacredness and privacy of working with those in need, as I was at the time. I hope to hear details of your Celebration of Life and that I can try to attend to meet your family. I can never thank you enough and I know I'm not alone. You must have had a large 'following' :) Your background and the person you were made it possible for you to go out into the world and continue your healing of those who are not always known or heard from. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. My condolences to Pam and what sounds like a large and beautiful family. Its good to hear that you had all that support and must have been a great husband and Dad etc. It was an honor to have known you. Sincerely, Susan C.
