Suddenly, but peacefully, at his home in Grafton on Sunday, March 23rd, 2025, Ron Griffiths at 88 years of age. Beloved husband of 66 years to Sylvia Griffiths (nee Thurlow). Loving father of Paul Griffiths (Susan) and Jeremy Griffiths (Anna). Cherished grandfather of Stephen (Christina), Christina (Brad), Tristan (Angelika), and Tessa. Great grandfather of Gemma, Rachael, Keira, predeceased by his sister June.
Ron was born in London, England. As a young boy, during World War Two, he was evacuated to Birmingham along with his cousin Doug to avoid the dangers of the Blitz. Eventually returning to London, towards the end of the war, his family, having taken refuge in their backyard bomb shelter, narrowly avoided death when a V1 “buzz bomb” destroyed the entire front half of their house.
After completing school, Dad apprenticed in the printing trade, an industry he continued to work in for the rest of his career. The only interruption to this being when he went into the Army to complete his mandatory two years of national service. This did have a silver lining though, for it was while stationed at Blackdown Army Camp, that he met his future bride Sylvia, who was working at the nearby Paul’s Cafe.
Married in 1958, they emigrated to Canada in 1964 with their two sons and lived in the north Beaches area of Toronto for nine years before moving to Scarborough.
For twenty years of his working life, Dad held the title of Vice President of production at C.C.H. Canadian, a printing firm specializing in tax information for the legal industry.
Retiring in 1998, Mum and Dad had a house built in Grafton where they lived for twenty-eight happy years.
Among his many interests, Dad enjoyed camping in the great outdoors, gardening, bird watching and science. He had an ongoing thirst for learning that has been passed on to his two sons.
A generous man, he gave to numerous charities over the years. With this in mind, Dad requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Covenant House or Scott Mission in his name.
A Celebration of Life Gathering for family and friends will be held at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home Reception Centre, 30 King St. E. in Cobourg on Saturday, August 16th, 2025 from 1 to 4 pm.
I express my deepest sympathy in this time of grief. The Bible gives a comforting hope that your loved one will soon live again on a beautiful paradise earth when death will be no more in John 5:28, 29 and Revelation 21:4.
