Muriel Violet Sudbury

August 13, 1920 - April 25, 2025

Muriel Sudbury passed away peacefully on April 25th, in her 105th year. Born in Alberta in 1920, she grew up during the Great Depression. During World War II, while contributing to the war effort at Neon Products in Vancouver, she met Alan Sudbury, the love of her life. They married in 1947 and raised four children—David, Harold, Peter, and Nancy. Alan was transferred to Toronto in 1964 and the family settled in Scarborough. Muriel became a medical secretary and worked for many years in a medical practice.

After Alan’s retirement, they moved to Cobourg, Ontario, where they became active members of the local arts community. Though they enjoyed traveling, their greatest joy was time spent with family. They were proud, devoted grandparents to nine grandchildren.

After Alan’s passing in 2005, Muriel—fondly known as Grandma Suds—remained active at Palisade Gardens in Cobourg for nearly 20 years. Even as her eyesight and hearing faded, she stayed engaged and full of warmth until a fall required long-term care.

Muriel’s sparkling green eyes and smile lit up every room. She found joy in painting, photography, music, and conversation. Her words of wisdom stayed with many, especially this favorite saying:

“Life is like a path of newly driven snow; be careful how you tread it, for every step will show.”

Rest in peace, Muriel. Love always
—Your family and friends
