James "Jim" Allen Hawkins

February 16, 1955 - June 13, 2025

It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of James “Jim” Allen Hawkins, age 70. Jim passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13th, in the arms of his loved ones. After a brave three-year battle with cancer, Jim defied the odds, outliving his original prognosis by over two years.

Some called him “The Hawk,” many called him a friend, and his favourite people called him Dad and Grandpa.

Jim leaves behind his daughter, Heather Rae, and his best friend and son, Bradley James. He will be missed immensely by his grandson and pride and joy, Owen James. Jim also recently reconnected with his son, Scott (Elizabeth), and wished for more time together. He will be lovingly remembered by, Val, Cam, and Lael, and many dear friends and family. A heartfelt thank-you goes to Lynn Cole and Trish Marple for their friendship and care.

Jim was born in Brampton, Ontario, and moved to Ajax, where he began a life of building, renovating, and selling homes before eventually settling with his family in Port Hope. In his later years, he split his time between Shelter Valley, Grafton, and Homossassa Springs, Florida.

Anyone who knew Jim knew his one true love was Florida. He was most at home on the open road in the motorhome, dancing, driving, and soaking up life. He made friends everywhere he went, turning strangers into family.

Jim had a lifelong love of cars and he built, raced, bought, and sold many over the years. His 1955 Ford was his pride and joy until he sold it to finally buy his dream car at age 69: a ’69 Dodge Dart Swinger. He also loved his Harley, long bike trips, camping, family trips to Florida, NASCAR weekends, and May 24 adventures with the boys. He could build anything, fix everything, and was the guy everyone called. He truly made an impact on everyone he met.

The family extends special thanks to Dr. Mark Azzopardi, Dr. Anthony Nassan, and the care teams at Lakeridge Health and Northumberland Hills Hospital. A warm and sincere thank-you to Dr. Mark Essak for his kindness and compassion.

A celebration of Jim’s life with friends and family will be announced at a later date.
