James Douglas Murray

April 30, 1942 - June 3, 2025

Peacefully at the Golden Plough Lodge in Cobourg on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025, Doug Murray at 83 years of age. Cherished husband of Susan Murray (nee Wilson). Loving father of Jamie Murray (Tara Markwart), Todd Murray (Connie), and Rob Murray (Danielle). Devoted grandfather of Zachary, Cameron, Kelty, Grant, Aidan, and Colin. Dear brother of David Murray and Margaret Richer (Jerry Booth). Cremation with a celebration to be held at a later date.
Douglas was a beloved father, grandfather, retired principal, and cherished member of the community. A natural leader and compassionate mentor, he dedicated his life to guiding and inspiring youth, both as a respected school principal and as a devoted staff coordinator at Red Pine family camp. After retiring from education, he brought the same heart and dedication to his work as a furniture store owner.
Douglas was the life of the party - always ready with a warm smile, a good story, and a genuine laugh. Above all, he loved nothing more than spending time with his family. Whether gathered around a campfire or a dinner table, his presence brought joy, connection, and comfort to all who knew him. His legacy of love, leadership, and community spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched.
Those wishing may make a memorial donation to the Alzheimer Society or the Golden Plough Lodge Resident’s Fund.

Our hearts are so full for you Susan, Rob, Danielle, Aidan, Colin and all the Murray family. Doug was a great guy that we loved very much. He was a good friend and a wonderful father who naturally instilled values and built character. His family meant everything to him. He was loving, kind, generous, funny, hard-working, a great story-teller, an incredible mentor and wonderful friend. Some of my favourite memories of Doug are listening to him break into song, and his famous 🎶Hello, hello, helloooo”🎶, our fun-filled grad road trip to Iowa, our family celebrations and the hilarious laughter and shenanigans that always happened. We are grateful to have known you and loved you Doug. RIP sweet man! We are holding the Murray clan tight in our thoughts and prayers. ❤️

Dear Susan and Family, Sending you condolences and love on Doug's passing. As my cousin, I have known him my entire life and there is now a hole in my heart. For many recent years, I would stop for a visit on my way to or from visiting my family in the Toronto area, and was always made to feel so welcome. There were lively conversations, with much laughter. Will miss you, Doug, but you are in my heart and memory. Love, Lynda

Matt Fortier - June 5, 2025

I want to extend my deep condolences to Susan, Jamie, Todd and Rob, and to their partners and Doug's grandkids. Rob and I were great friends at Red Pine for many summers, which meant I spent a lot of time in Doug's presence when I was a kid. He was kind and patient and it was clear how much he respected his kids and how they, in kind, respected and loved him. I'm thinking of the Murrays today. I know you will shed tears but also share many great stories in the coming days, months and years. Very sincerely, Matt Fortier

I remember Doug well from my year on Junior Staff at Red Pine in '92 (with his son Rob). It may have been a long time ago in years but in memory, Doug has lived on in so many of our memories from camp. All my best to all of you right now as you remember, grieve and celebrate a great life! Sincerely, Janet
