They had two girls Brenda and Terri. Clifford lived with his daughter Brenda in Orillia for the last five years and was active in the community. Clifford was born in Elmvale, over the Bake Shop that his parents, the late Stanley George Bate and the late Clara (nee Dundas) Bate, owned. When he was eleven, they moved to Cobourg and bought the Cobourg Pool Room. He was offered a spot on a ship to China at the age of 18 and also to Venezuela before dating and marrying. He will be missed by his son-in-law Julien Desrochers, his grandchildren Clinton (Karen) Coleman, Bridgette (Mike) Corbett, Jesse Desrochers, and Lucas (Heizel Medon) Bate Medon, his great grandchildren, Taylor (Matt) Richards, Page Woodman, Devon Woodman, Nicole (Dylan Riley) Coleman, Cooper Coleman, Carter Coleman and Brendon Coleman, and his great great granddaughter Juniper Woodman. Dear brother of the late Tim Bate, the late Bernetta Norwood and the late Margaret Moore. Uncle of Patricia Turner, Frank Archer, Sharon Bate and John McCallister. Clifford worked in Toronto for the TTC for 15 years. Dad loved camping and summered at Hammock Harbour in Rama for many years. He loved animals, feeding his wild pet rabbit all winter. He is also missed by his fur babies Olliver, Peach, Bella and Gus. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 12 noon in the MacCoubrey Funeral Home Reception Centre, 30 King St. E., Cobourg. Interment Cobourg Union Cemetery. Brenda, Terri and family. So very sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. May the many memories you shared with him sustain you all during this difficult time
My condolences to the Bate family. I lived across the street from your Aunt Marg Moore (lovely lady!) and would help her with grass cutting and snow removal. I would have many lovely conversations with Cliff when he would come down the street to check on Marg and bring her meals on many occasions. He was such a caring brother to her. RIP Cliff.
Brenda, Terri and families, I am sorry to read about your father. I know you will have a lifetime of memories to look back on and remember with joy. Please accept my deepest condolences
