Gunter Hermann Krieg

June 19, 1937 - May 6, 2025

Gunter, at age 87, died peacefully at Ed’s House. He will be missed by his partner, Judy Harris, sister-in-law, Janet Ruderman, brother-in-law, David Henderson, nieces and nephews.

Gunter was born and raised in Eisenoch East Germany. He immigrated to Canada in 1958 and became a proud Canadian a few years later. Trained as a tool and die maker, he transitioned to store window decorating, which made better use of his creativity.

Gunter loved to travel. In the 1970s, he completed a three-year odyssey that took him through South America and Africa. He took several other trips on his own and after retiring, he travelled from time to time with Judy.

In retirement, Gunter enjoyed golf, bridge and gardening.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2973 Cornish Hollow Rd. in Cobourg on Sunday, August 10, 2025, from 2 to 4 pm.
Those wishing may make a donation to Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice.

We have known Gunter for over forty years - in Toronto, we played bridge, we golfed (Gunter often arranged a golf tournament with great attendances). Then lo and behold he and Judy moved to Northumberland where we were again able to play bridge and golf and "socialize". We think Gunter had a full, exciting life. He made the most of it. We will miss him and will have many moments to remember him. Judy our thoughts are with you.

Simon Haworth - May 23, 2025

My deepest condolences to Judy and family. They certainly broke the mold when they made Gunter. He was a unique and colourful character with a zest for life and a seemingly endless trove of tales from his many and varied travels. I shall miss his humour, his cheeky comments and his booming, always-enthusiastic voice: "Oh, ja!"

So sorry to hear of Gunters passing, thoughts and prayers are with you.

kenneth stoker - May 22, 2025

Very sad at the passing of my friend Gunter. One of the initial founders of the poker group which met once a month for the passed 18 or so years ago. More of a social gathering than a poker game(s). A time to jab at each other, where jokes and stories were plentiful and, at the end of the evening. a shake of hands, a slap on the shoulder and looking forward to the next game. Gunter was my 'go-to" target for retribution - Gunter did not have anyone special as no one was safe from his good humour jabs. He will be missed by all who knew him.

John F Mencarelli - May 22, 2025

I enjoyed many conversations with Gunter about a lot of subjects. He was a very interesting person who always shared his wisdom. He will be missed. A prince among us. My condolences, JUDY.
