Alexander (Sandy) Grandison Mulligan

April 6, 1952 - April 26, 2025

Peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the age of 73, surrounded by loved ones, at Hope Street Terrace Nursing Home in Port Hope, Ontario.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years, Nina Mulligan (nee Roberts). Cherished father of Telena Mulligan (David Rogalski) and Alexandrea Mulligan (Kevan Anderson). Beloved grandfather of Alexander, Rowan, Sigourney, Rosalind, and Annalise.

He was predeceased by his brother John Mulligan and his parents, Glenford Mulligan and Evelyn Mulligan (nee Grandison).

Alexander was born in Oshawa, Ontario. A devoted husband and father, who prioritized family first and foremost. His kindness and work ethic made him a valued friend and co-worker. In his free time, he could be found enjoying his passions with his loved ones, such as camping, bird watching, gardening, woodworking, and tinkering with anything mechanical in his garage.

Visitation will take place at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St. E., Cobourg, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00pm. Reception to follow the service. Interment will take place at Cobourg Union Cemetery.

If desired, memorial donations may be made in Alexander Mulligan’s name to the Friends of Presqu’ile Park by visiting www.friendsofpresquile.on.ca. This organization is a non-profit that, among other things, is dedicated to the conservation of Presqu’ile Provincial Park, a place Alexander loved.

My Favorite Family Vacation In memory of Uncle Sandy When I think back to my favorite family vacation, I remember Uncle Sandy with deep fondness. What stands out most is his kindness, his steady nature, and the incredible patience he carried, the kind of patience you read about in the Bible, like Job. He never seemed to change, always grounded, always calm, and I admired that deeply. One visit to Uncle Sandy’s place in Oshawa remains etched in my mind. That’s where he introduced me to the wild world of pitchfork fishing. Yes, pitchforking for lamprey or suckers. It was rugged, fun, and a bit outrageous to my young eyes. The best part was watching his dogs eagerly wait for the catch, ready to enjoy their fresh treat. That trip also opened my eyes to motorcycle racing, a world I’ve loved ever since. But one of my favorite memories of Uncle Sandy was watching him on horseback. I remember seeing him ride with total control, guiding the horse as it jumped over a log like it was nothing. He made it all look effortless. He just knew what was up. I stayed with their family that summer, and those days are still some of my best childhood memories. Aunt Nina always treated me like I was one of her own. And the girls, Telena and Ali, made the trip even more special. I really enjoyed spending time with them. They were, and still are, incredibly special to me. They’re the ones who introduced me to the green hair club. They had it when I arrived from swimming so much, and by the end of the vacation, mine was just as green. We looked hilarious, but I loved every moment with that family. I still do. Uncle Sandy was truly one of a kind. Level headed, fun, wise, and full of quiet strength. I’m grateful for those memories, and I’ll carry them with me always. A Prayer for Aunt Nina, Telena, Alli, and Family Lord, I lift up Aunt Nina, Telena, and Ali to you today. Wrap them in your love and comfort as they walk through this deep sorrow. Let them feel surrounded by the prayers, memories, and love of those who grieve with them. And may the warmth of Uncle Sandy’s life continue to shine through theirs. Scripture "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." Psalm 34:18

Dear Nina, Alex & Telena, I am so sorry to hear about Sandy. Even though we have been out of touch for many years, I still hold the fondest memories of him from our teenage years. Those times together as teens are cemented in my brain, as we were learning how to become adults (often with lots of stumbles & hiccups!) Sandy taught me that it was cool to watch birds & to this day, I am an avid bird watcher & lover. RIP Sandy. With fondness, Joan
