Melanie Judith Davie

August 11, 1959 - April 22, 2025

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Mel Davie, peacefully at home. Beloved wife to Steve Davie for 38 wonderful and fulfilling years, mother and best friend to Lauren Cupido (Joey) and adored granny to Madelyn and Leah. Predeceased by her parents Margaret and Peter Heather as well as father-in-law, Eric Davie.

Immigrating to Canada in 1999, Mel spent her entire adult life as a dedicated and much-loved teacher for 43 years, having recently retired in June of 2024.
Love and devotion to her family was the core of her existence. Mel was endlessly supportive of her family’s ambitions, dreams and interests. The emotional center of our family, Mum was the most brave, selfless, thoughtful, kind, gentle and patient soul. Her unconditional love was felt by everyone who was lucky enough to be a part of her life, and her love and influence will continue with the endless memories that we are left with. She always saw the good in everyone and was friendly and welcoming to all.

She greatly enjoyed travelling to Hamilton to spend time with Lauren, Joey, Madelyn and Leah. She loved following Joey’s athletic career and attending his football and lacrosse games whenever she could. She also enjoyed taking the girls on experiences to the zoo, play centers and the park.

Being born on the south coast of England, Mel was always drawn to the water. She loved spending time at the Cobourg beach, or any body of water, where she felt most relaxed and at peace. She also enjoyed traveling with Steve and her family to new locations such as Hawaii, France and the Channel Islands, to experience the local culture and cuisine.

There are too many moments, memories and interests to share however, we are hopeful that friends and family will join us for a Memorial Service to be held at St. Peter’s Church (240 College St., Cobourg) on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 at 3pm. A reception will follow immediately after at MacCoubrey Funeral Home (within walking distance of the church). For those who wish to make a donation acknowledging Mel’s 30-year battle with Crohn’s, a contribution to the Crohn’s and Colitis foundation would be greatly appreciated.

For all family and friends who are able to attend, it was Mel’s wishes that bright colours be worn to celebrate and honour her beautiful life.

I had Mrs Davie as my grade 7 teacher and she was awesome. She was very funny and easy to talk to. She knew how to make you laugh and put a smile on your face, and I looked forward to being in her class. I’m very sorry to hear that she has passed. My condolences to the family.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Mel in the virtual world of DDSB@Home. We had the opportunity to build an amazing program as a team during a very hard time for students and families. Although I never had the chance to meet Mel “in real life”, I always enjoyed our Google Meet chats. She was always such a positive and bright face for her students and colleagues. I am truly sorry to hear about her passing and send all my love to her family and friends.

You were the most beautiful soul I have ever met as a teacher. You have definitely left Kyle and I with great memories of having him in your class. You were feisty and understanding all at the same time. You helped him grow into the awesome man he is today. Rest in peace my dear.
