It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Mel Davie, peacefully at home. Beloved wife to Steve Davie for 38 wonderful and fulfilling years, mother and best friend to Lauren Cupido (Joey) and adored granny to Madelyn and Leah. Predeceased by her parents Margaret and Peter Heather as well as father-in-law, Eric Davie.
Immigrating to Canada in 1999, Mel spent her entire adult life as a dedicated and much-loved teacher for 43 years, having recently retired in June of 2024.
Love and devotion to her family was the core of her existence. Mel was endlessly supportive of her family’s ambitions, dreams and interests. The emotional center of our family, Mum was the most brave, selfless, thoughtful, kind, gentle and patient soul. Her unconditional love was felt by everyone who was lucky enough to be a part of her life, and her love and influence will continue with the endless memories that we are left with. She always saw the good in everyone and was friendly and welcoming to all.
She greatly enjoyed traveling to Hamilton to spend time with Lauren, Joey, Madelyn and Leah. She loved following Joey’s athletic career and attending his football and lacrosse games whenever she could. She also enjoyed taking the girls on experiences to the zoo, play centers and the park.
Being born on the south coast of England, Mel was always drawn to the water. She loved spending time at the Cobourg beach, or any body of water, where she felt most relaxed and at peace. She also enjoyed traveling with Steve and her family to new locations such as Hawaii, France and the Channel Islands, to experience the local culture and cuisine.
There are too many moments, memories and interests to share however, we are hopeful that friends and family will join us for a Memorial Service to be held at St. Peter’s Church (240 College St., Cobourg) on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 at 3pm. A reception will follow immediately after at MacCoubrey Funeral Home (within walking distance of the church). For those who wish to make a donation acknowledging Mel’s 30-year battle with Crohn’s, a contribution to the Crohn’s and Colitis foundation would be greatly appreciated.
For all family and friends who are able to attend, it was Mel’s wishes that bright colours be worn to celebrate and honour her beautiful life.

Getting to be Mrs Davie’s student was a honour I hold greatly in my heart. Grade 7/8 is forever a memory I enjoy sharing with Mrs Davie always being there. She always kept us from “going up the creek without a paddle” She showed me how strong my math skills could ever be and always reminded me how bright my smile could be. Forever an inspiration to me and my success would not have been possible without her. May her kindness never be forgotten. I am so sorry to hear about her passing and send my deepest condolences to her family, friends & everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
My dear friend, Mel. You were an unbelievable teaching partner online and boy did we laugh. The last two years were so much fun. I looked forward to saying "Hi!", every day. The kids love you, Mel. Your choice of 70's rock music....lol ah.. and that British humour was a daily treat for all of us. Mel, I miss you already. Lauren, know, everyday she spoke of you, your kids, your hubby and of course, Lacrosse. She adored you and your family and I feel so blessed to have become one of Mel's friends. I am having a cupcake for you right now, Mel, and oh the messages I would put on them. In my heart always. Lynne
I am so sorry to hear of Mel’s passing. We worked together at Ormiston and I loved our chats and I could always count on her for good advice and her math expertise got me through teaching math many times. She always talked about how much she loved her family and how excited she was about becoming a grandmother. She will be missed greatly.

I had Mrs Davie as my grade 7 teacher and she was awesome. She was very funny and easy to talk to. She knew how to make you laugh and put a smile on your face, and I looked forward to being in her class. I’m very sorry to hear that she has passed. My condolences to the family.
I had the pleasure of getting to know Mel in the virtual world of DDSB@Home. We had the opportunity to build an amazing program as a team during a very hard time for students and families. Although I never had the chance to meet Mel “in real life”, I always enjoyed our Google Meet chats. She was always such a positive and bright face for her students and colleagues. I am truly sorry to hear about her passing and send all my love to her family and friends.
My teacher in grade 7 & 8. She’s one of those teachers you never will forget or stop talking about! She was an inspirational to many and will be missed greatly! So sorry for your loss!
My grade 7 teacher and someone I genuinely still talk about to this day. One of the most kindhearted person I’ve had the privilege of meeting and one I will never forget. Deeply sorry for your loss

You were the most beautiful soul I have ever met as a teacher. You have definitely left Kyle and I with great memories of having him in your class. You were feisty and understanding all at the same time. You helped him grow into the awesome man he is today. Rest in peace my dear.
