John Ton

July 10, 1940 - April 11, 2025

Peacefully at Northumberland Hills Hospital, John Ton passed at the age of 84 on Friday, April 11, 2025. He is the loved father of John Ton and Anthony Ton. Cherished grandfather of Hal Ton, Hannah Ton, Anthony Ton, CJ “Cassondra” Ton, Nathanial Chadwick and Logan Chadwick. Great grand father of his two great grandchildren and pre-deceased by his parents Anthony and Grace Ton and his brothers Anthony and Johannes. John was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada at the age of 15 with his family. As he grew into a young man, he met his previous partner, Helena. It was decided that Helena and John would go their separate ways, however, they continued to share the love of their family. Later in life, John was blessed to care for his grandson CJ, who came to him at only 10 days old. John was a proud and determined member of the Colborne community; he spent 5 years as the Colborne Legion president and dedicated a great deal of time and effort into ensuring the proper upkeep of the Legion. He was a good friend who often found himself sitting on the front porch of his neighbour’s home, simply enjoying the company. He will be missed dearly by his family, his friends, and his community. A special thank you to the staff at the Oncology department at Northumberland Hills Hospital as well as Dr. Smerdon. At this time, cremation has taken place and in the words of John, “There will be no funeral! I would like a big party” In memory of John a big party will be held Sunday May 4th from 1pm – 3pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 187. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 187.

MESSAGES OF CONDOLENCE / DONATIONS

Wendy Rolph - April 24, 2025

Worked with John at CFMX, where he kept both CFMX and CHUC on air 24/7!! He had a heart of gold, and was always first up to solve any problem. We bought our son a video game (one of the first) which much to everyone’s dismay did not work… one call to John and he was on our door step, game fixed and one very happy birthday boy!!. Very fortunate to have known him .. my condolences to the family.

Yolande McKinnon and Wayne McKinnon - April 22, 2025

Dave & Diana Hughes - April 20, 2025

For many years we worked with John at Pineridge Broadcasting in Cobourg. We didn't always agree, that's for sure, and John was never one to hold back with his opinion. He was the go to engineer for our company as well as many other broadcast organizations in and around the GTA. Our thoughts and prayers go out to John's family at this time.

Donna Smith - April 19, 2025

Rust in vrede John Het was een eer je te kennen en mooi dat we elkaar 2 jaar geleden nog hebben gezien bij jouw thuis. Het gaat je goed mijn mijn vriend.

Gerald Freymann - April 17, 2025

I met John while working at CHUC and then when I moved to CFMX. John was always available for staff and friends to fix things. He was good at that! I remember John teaching me how to build computers back in the IBM XT days, and we sold computers and hardware together for many years. John always had something funny to say. I lost touch with him after leaving the radio business but was happy to see him a few times at the Colborne Legion and learn of him being president there. We'll miss you, John. Condolences to his family.
