Gordon David Garioch

September 29, 1954 - March 16, 2025

Unexpectedly at his home, Gordon David “Gord” Garioch passed Sunday, March 16, 2025 at the age of 70 after an 18-month battle with cancer. Loved dad to Douglas Garioch (Ashley Christina) & coming grandchild. Pre-deceased by his wife Jackie Garioch as well as his mom, Helen. Gord will be missed greatly by his father Victor Garioch and his sister Elinor Copeland (Tom). Gord was a loved partner to Nancy Buott. He will be remembered fondly by all of his extended family and friends including his cousins in Scotland.

Gord was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. He emigrated with his parents in the late 50's. Gord was an avid open-wheel racing fan. In his 20's Gord was involved in Mini Cooper, Formula 1600 and Formula 2000 racing. Many summer weekends were spent at Mosport where he had the good fortune to work with drivers and crew chiefs who would go on to the highest levels of motorsports.

After retirement, Gord and Nancy enjoyed spending time with friends at their boat in Hastings.

As per Gord’s wishes, there will be no formal service at this time and an interment will take place in the Spring of 2025. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Community Care Northumberland.

I have known Gord since I was 6 yrs old. You were like a 3rd big brother to me. You and Roy babysat me as a child then I got to return the favour by caring for Doug as a little one for you and Jackie. I Will always have fond memories of you. RIP Big Guy you were one of a kind ❤️ Love to all you left behind.

ROY ELLIS - March 22, 2025

To Dougy (Ashley), Victor, Elinor, Tom, and extended family and friends, Mary's and my thoughts and prayers are with you all as you traverse these difficult times. While I will miss my pal Gord immensely, I will always cherish and take comfort in the memories we shared. From enjoying our first whiskey together, to playing French Horn in the high school band, to witnessing his altercation with the French teacher (she'll remain nameless), to hearing tales of his first kiss/touch, to pulling him skiing on the back of my boat with his son Doug, and for his standing tall in our wedding party some 50 years ago; Gord thank you. Yes, Bramalea high school was a launch pad for many of us who later went on to pursue varied careers while treasuring life-long friendships. My last visit with Gord was sharing lunch together in his condo. I stopped by McDonald's in Cobourg and picked up a quarter pounder with cheese and a chocolate milkshake. While eating wasn't Gord's fave thing to do, I got great joy in watching him devour his 'surprize' meal. We'll miss you my friend. Take comfort in knowing we'll always be there for those you left behind. Love you man.

If someone asked me to describe Gord in one word it would simply be “fun”. Countless times he had me in stitches with his wicked sense of humour. Always ready with a smile and a laugh. He loved life, early days in Bramalea gave way to adventures on Georgian Bay with Pete and Lori at the famous island 459. Jackie was his equal in getting the best out of a day and together they had the best of times. Gore’s racing exploits are legendary to those who worked alongside him on the crews. So popular he was with all who knew him trackside. When Nancy came into his life I thought it was a perfect match and they began a new phase in life with friends in the boating world. I hope he knew how many people liked and loved the guy. His passing leaves many of us with only memories to look back on. I’ll hang on to those.
