Sherylyn Elizabeth "Sherry" Mercieca

May 12, 1969 - January 31, 2025

After a heck of a battle well fought, on her own terms, in her own way, Sherylyn Elizabeth Mercieca gained her beautiful angel wings. Sherry passed surrounded in love, with her family by her side at Northumberland Hills Hospital January 31, 2025 at the age of 55. She is the best friend and wife of Michael Mercieca who she shared 18 years of marriage, but 33 years of unconditional love and friendship. She is the cherished mom of Adam (Ashley) Amisson, Taylor (Tim Marquis) Mercieca, Kendra (Josh Lalonde) Mercieca and Kyle Mercieca. Proud grandma of Cooper, Hadley, Harmony, and Nova. She is the loved fur-mom to Jemma and Allie. Awaiting her arrival at Heaven’s Gate was her sister Francesca, brother Ian and fur baby Chloe who she loved immensely. Sherry was a woman who blazed her own path in all she did. She had a zest for life unmatched and you couldn’t help but want to be near her light, laughter and beautiful smile. She is going to be so greatly missed by so many of her wonderful friends and extended family. Sherry’s family would like to thank the staff at Lakeridge Health Oshawa – Cancer Center as well as the staff at Northumberland Hills – Palliative unit for your care, compassion and guidance. Lastly sending thanks to her devoted home care nurses – Lindsay, Judy and Tracy, who she created a very special bond with throughout her journey.

“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure… you are loved beyond words, and missed beyond measure. Life took you from us, it will never be fair… but your memory lives on, and will forever be shared.”

I worked with Sherry 20+ years ago and got to know her immediately as someone who could light up a room (or factory assembly line in this case). She had an infectious laugh and vivacious personality. We kept in touch through social media and when my husband and I bought our house on King Street, east of Keewatin, in Oshawa we become neighbours. I would see her frequently during my stops at Walmart, and on many occasions she would stop to chat out front on her way to work. I can’t even tell you how many times I drove down Keewatin to work and saw Sherry on that beautiful porch; I always loved discussing her home updates and renos. She would always say, “Mike built it for us.” My partner and I sold our house in Oshawa in 2021 and moved to the Kawarthas, and I’ve missed seeing Sherry. When I heard of her passing, it took my breath away. I can’t imagine how hard this might be for her family. Although I’ve never met you, it was evident that she adored her family and always spoke so lovingly of Mike and each of the kids when we caught up. She always took the time to inquire how you were doing, I can still hear her asking, “how is Aurora?” I will never forget her proudly telling me about her grandkids. There are beautiful condolences written here; I poured over each one and they all speak to Sherry’s beauty, purpose, and lasting impact in the world. Mike, Adam, Kendra, Taylor, and Kyle and all of Sherry’s family and friends, please accept my sincere and deepest condolences for this loss. I know Sherry’s bright light will be forever reflected in your lives. - Amanda, Jay & Aurora

Sherry was awesome, she was funny and caring, loved by her family. I worked with Sherry at Walmart, she’d always give me pointers and always cared for others. She was a leader and a comedian at times. Her sense of humour was the best. She was one heck of a poker player and her soul was a magnet with a heart of gold who brought in good hearted people. I wish Mike and the family all the best. Rest in peace, Sherry.

Some people walk out of our lives forever and then some people continously cross your path. Sherry was stunning in every way. Her smile, her lightness of heart, her joy and her beauty. She shared all of her beauty with anyone who stepped into her light. I didn't know of her last year challenges and I am sure she stepped up with Grace. Sherry will be missed. She takes our hearts with her. Fly beautiful angel. Spread your wings. We will meet again. I am sure of it. Much love and heart holding to her family. 💓

What a complete honor to be a part of Sherry's life. When Lindsay and I were confronted with her loving, vivacious, indomitable spirit, we knew instantly that it would be one of those nursing relationships that changes your life. Witnessing the love she shared with her family, from her devoted husband Mike and children to her precious grandchildren and beyond to her many friends, was a testament to what an incredible woman she was. I will never forget Sherry and will carry a piece of of her love and passion forward with me. Thank you, Sherry. Always loved, never forgotten.
