Charles Douglas 'Chuck' Taylor

December 27, 1934 - January 30, 2025

With profound sadness, we share the passing of Charles (Chuck) Douglas Taylor, who left this world peacefully at Ed’s House Hospice in Cobourg on January 30, 2025, at the age of 90.
Chuck was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Douglas and Beryl (Broomhead) Taylor, both of whom predeceased him. He was a devoted husband to Geraldine (Power), with whom he shared an incredible 69 years of marriage - a love story that defined his life. Their bond was one of unwavering devotion, respect, and deep companionship. To witness them together was to see the very definition of true love.
Chuck was the beloved father of Karen Rossall (née Taylor) (Wayne Rossall) and Jeff Taylor (Colette O’Neill). He was the cherished grandfather of Sara Taylor Rossall, Charles Rossall (Kathleen Varga), Daniel Taylor (Rachel Smith), and Olivia Taylor. His heart grew even fuller with the joy of becoming a great-grandfather to Wyatt and Cohen. He was also a loving brother to Herb (Virginia, predeceased) and George (predeceased) and his wife Blanche. He will be deeply missed by his nieces, nephews, and their partners, all of whom were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and steady presence.
A Life Built with Love and Hard Work
In 1941, Chuck moved to Toronto, where fate brought him to Gerry, the love of his life. Together, they raised their family in Scarborough before moving to Caesarea in 1986, where Chuck did what he did best - building something beautiful. With his own hands, he constructed the home that he and Gerry would share for decades, a testament to his craftsmanship, dedication, and love.
Chuck started his career at the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) as a bus driver, where he worked for 17 years before following his true calling - creating and building. He launched his own renovation and furniture-making business, Charles Taylor Renovations, a passion that allowed him to craft pieces that still fill the homes of his children and grandchildren today. For over 30 years, Chuck was known for his incredible work ethic, the strength in his hands, and his dedication to his customers.
A Man of Many Talents & Deep Devotion
Though family was always his greatest passion, Chuck found joy in painting, woodworking, and playing the guitar in his earlier years. He had an endless love for music, games, and movie trivia, and he was known for his passionate debates about current events - especially around the family dinner table, where discussions were lively, thoughtful, and always memorable.
Above all else, Chuck was a kind, gentle, and loving soul, a man of quiet strength who gave endlessly to those he loved. Anyone who knew him would say the same - he loved life, he loved his family, but most of all, he loved Gerry. His first and last priority was always ensuring that she was cared for, a reflection of the deep, unwavering love that defined their lives together.
A Lasting Legacy
Chuck leaves behind a lifetime of love, hard work, and cherished memories. His family will forever carry his lessons, his laughter, and the warmth of his presence in their hearts. Though he is no longer here, his love lives on in the home he built, the furniture he crafted, the stories he shared, and the deep roots of the family he adored.

MESSAGES OF CONDOLENCE / DONATIONS

Christy and Joe Harrison - February 6, 2025

Chuck and Gerry were our neighbors for over 10 years. We spent many nights on the porch enjoying a glass of wine and talking about travel, tattoos, life and most importantly love. Our girls loved them both and called them "Chuck and Cherry" it was so sweet. Chuck was such a proud hard working man that shared a very special bond with my husband Joe. We did our best to take good care of them and made them feel safe. Our family feels this loss and we are sorry to the family and that we're couldn't be there today but we will miss you both and fondly remember you always. xo Christy, Joe, Olivia and Emma

Jeff, Colette, Daniel, Rachel, Olivia and the entire Taylor Family, We are so sorry for your loss. "When I say sorry for your loss it may sound perfunctory or trite even, but what I mean is I am sorry that you wake in the night gasping for breath, heart racing in agony. I am sorry that you will know a lifetime of what ifs and could have been. I am sorry that you ache for one more minute with your love, knowing it can never be.
