Peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre at the age of 92, William Alfred Donald Selby “Bill” passed. Cherished husband of Ann Selby. Loving Dad to Beth Selby (the late Barry Vail), Kathy (Jim) Cookman, Meg Selby (Edwin Schaerlaeckens), and pre-deceased by his daughter Patti Selby. Step-father of Mary and John Biggar. Grandfather of Patrick and Jamie Bradshaw, John and Ian Mitchell. Step-grandfather of Jason and Matthew Vail, Kevin and Alex Schaerlaeckens, Robin Kilgour, Alex and Adam Biggar. Great grandfather of Daemon and Ethan Bradshaw. Bill is the son of the late Lillian and Alfred Selby and is brother to Eula Chessman, Ralph Selby, and the late Rosemary Kennedy.
Bill was educated in Nantyr (Innisville) and Toronto, Ontario. He served in the RCAF and was stationed in Bagotville, Quebec as a radar technician. Bill was a life member of the Institute of the Chartered Accountants of Ontario. He practiced in several firms in Toronto and Oshawa and Canada Trust in Toronto. He specialized in tax and business valuation. Bill served as Chairman of Oshawa Harbour Commission, was a member of Oshawa Golf Club, past president of Hidden Valley Ski Club and a member of the Osler Bluff Ski Club. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
A private family funeral will be held Monday, February 3, 2025 at 10:30am at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King Street East, Cobourg. Burial at Union Cemetery, Oshawa at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre or a charity of your choice.
