Marilyn Ann Daignault (nee MacInnes) passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025. She was predeceased by Henry Robert Daignault, her loving husband of 61 years. Marilyn is survived by her children Michelle (Andrew Rau-Chaplin), Jennifer (Joel Rabinowitz), Jim (Janet Anderson) and Valerie (Gordon Archibald) and by her grandchildren Katie Thomson-Aitken (Joel Aitken), Billy Thomson, Max Rau, Leslie Louie (Gerome Louie), Sam Rau-Chaplin, Hugh Daignault, Harry Daignault and Lauren Archibald and by her great-grandchildren Marilyn Rose Aitken and Hudson Robert Louie.
Marilyn was born in Brockville Ontario to Myrtle (Hough) and Basil MacInnes. After graduating from University of Toronto with a Dental Nursing degree, she worked in the oral surgery department of Toronto General Hospital. She met the love of her life, Bob Daignault, when they were both studying in the faculty of dentistry and they eventually settled in Cobourg to raise their family. Marilyn loved to renovate old homes decorating them with antiques from auction sales. She was an avid reader and filled the house with fabulous books. There were parties organized for all ages and for any reason and so many people were embraced by her warm hospitality and enjoyed her marvelous food. She leaves a legacy of wonderful memories, a loving family and a large network of friends. We will miss her terribly and we hope a little of her warmth and kind spirit, generosity, humour and zest for life lives on in each of us.
We wish to express our appreciation for the kindness shown to Marilyn and the excellent care she received from the nurses and PSWs at James Club, Cobourg Hospital Palliative Care unit and Extendicare Nursing Home in Port Hope.
Please join us in the celebration of Marilyn’s life to be held at St. Peter’s Church, Cobourg on Saturday, January 25, 2025. Visitation at the church at noon and service at 1:00 pm. A reception will be held in MacCoubrey Funeral Home Reception Centre, 30 King St. East, Cobourg following the service.

Dear Jennifer and family We were so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother Our deepest sympathies
Sorry to hear your Mom has died. I always enjoyed her and your Dad (except when he was drilling a tooth…I still have his old fillings). Your Mom was especially kind to us after my brother Charlie died. She’d have us to your house around Christmas so we weren’t sitting around feeling sorry for ourselves. She was a kind, thoughtful woman.
Deepest condolences to you kids Jimmy, Jennifer, Valerie and Michelle. Your mother was certainly a force of nature. I still have many fond memories of that wildly successful strawberry operation that got us our pocket money through high-school. The pickup truck with the missing doors. Decoding your mom’s sometimes seemingly arbitrary decisions - although she always seemed like she knew what she was doing! Fun times. I know our late parents had in common the values of work, honesty and family which we now possess. It’s hard losing your mother and becoming an orphan. Again, deepest sympathy on your loss.
Our deepest condolences to the entire Daignault Family. We have fond memories of both Marilyn and Bob over the years, from dinner parties on Cap Wilson Rd to our time in Shediak NB as their “neighbours” one summer. May your memories of a life well lived bring you peace.

So sorry to hear this news about Marilyn. May those rich memories carry you all through. Simon Haworth -- Baltimore neighbour from the 70s and 80s
We always enjoyed it when Mrs. Daignault would come into our store as she was always so gracious and had impeccable taste. We hope that you, her family, are able to take comfort in the wonderful memories you all have of your lovely mother.

Valerie, Jim, Jennifer and Michele My sincere condolences to you and your families. I so wish I could be there on the 25th but won’t be home from family ski trip on time. I have so many fond memories of your mom, and your entire family. My daughter’s boyfriend and his family live in the Daignaults Baltimore strawberry field. I reminisce every time I head down that road. My mom still reminisces about the “Happy Hookers” and all their lunches. She asked about your mom recently. She will be sad to hear the news of your mom’s passing. Hugs to all of you.

Dear Michelle, I am so very sorry to hear this news, Marilyn was such a bright light. Have such vivid memories of her telling a story to my parents at our cottage, you just knew it would be wonderfully delivered and had a surprise at the end that would make you laugh right down to your toes. She once gave me a book of authors and titles she loved, each and every one a delightful read. Your story of taking her to the doctor and nodding as he advised that she should not take a drink any more. Then an hour later, at lunch, ordering a glass of wine saying, “well I AM 90!” She and your father truly wonderful hosts, such a gift to all the people at Brule and I am sure wherever they were. Marilyn was gregarious, adored her family, had humour and intelligence and was a beautiful person. Peter and I send our deepest condolences to you, Jennifer, Valerie and Jim and your families. We will miss her very much. Love, Jeannie

Dear Katie, Leslie and Billy, I'm so sad to hear of Marilyn's passing. A Grandmother is such a gift and I know each of you had a special relationship with your dear Granny. I had the pleasure of experiencing some of those dinner parties myself in your grandparents beautiful home in Baltimore. I recall many LaJeunesse concerts with your grandparents in the audience with proud smiles on their faces. I see Marilyn's strength, intelligence, gift of hospitality and sharp wit in each of you. Wishing you and your whole family find peace as you grieve this loss. Much love, Kathy Evan, Ellie and Leon
Many memories of the good times at Brule
Dear Jennifer and the entire Daignault family, Cindy and I were saddened to hear that Marilyn had passed. I will always remember her as a sharply dressed woman who had a wonderful smile and an engaging personality. We would often see each other at the library and chat about her grandchildren and days gone by at Baltimore Public School. I thoroughly enjoyed her positive energy. Thinking of the Daignault family during this very difficult time. Sincere condolences to all. Marilyn Daignault September 24, 1932 - January 17, 2025 - REST IN PEACE -
I am very sad to learn of Marilyn's passing. I always enjoyed our visits with Marilyn at Cap Brule, New Brunswick, including many trips to our favourite eatery, Paturel's Shorehouse. I extend my sincere condolences to her family.
I’m deeply sorry for the loss of Marilyn. She was such a sweet and special person. I’ll always remember her big, welcoming smile every time I arrived at her room for companionship. It always made my day when she called me 'Vicky,' and I gladly embraced it. She had such a kind heart, always complimenting people on their smiles, clothes, and even their teeth. I’ve never met anyone who loved reading as much as she did—it was truly inspiring. Marilyn will be deeply missed, but her warmth and joy will always stay in my heart.
Marilyn was such a beautiful person. I would always look forward to spending time with her when I cleaned for her. We'd chat while I worked and I really enjoyed it. She always had a way of making people feel welcomed. I am thinking of you all in your time of sadness.

Very sorry to hear of Marilyn's passing, she was a lovely lady with a great sense of fun, and a generous heart, who lived life to the fullest. A little like Queen Elizabeth you always expected she'd be there so her passing is a surprise even though inevitable. My condolences to the whole family.

I am so sorry Jennifer and Valerie that you have lost your mum - one of the most important people in our lives, the one you knows us best and with whom we have bonded from our very beginnings. The loss of our "mum" is one of the hardest losses we bear and I know you will grieve for her.
