It is with sadness and gratitude for a long life well lived that we mark the death of Heather Neill who passed away in her 93rd year on January 4, 2025.
Heather was born in the Parish of St. Saviour on the Island of Jersey. She had very fond memories of her Granny Moody & Grandad and their family farm.
Her family immigrated to Canada following World War II. They settled in Owen Sound, Ontario where she met her husband of 69 years, Tom Neill.
Heather and Tom went on to have a family of four children, Pamela (Roger), Gail (Rick), Chris (Mary) and Stacy (Kevin). She was Grandmother to Courtney, Ken, Julie, Amanda, Tom, Ryan, Chelsea and Cole. Great Grandmother to many.
Heather will be missed by her sisters, Amber (Norman) and Hazel (Jafe predeceased).
Heather loved her family with all her heart, attending more baseball, hockey and soccer games than she could ever count. She was always just a phone call away for anyone needing her help. She could be quoted saying, “if you don’t spend time with your grandchildren while they are young, they won’t spend time with you when you are old”.
Heather was that lady who never left the house without having her hair, makeup and nails done. Her shoes and handbag always matched. While talking recently a family member commented that even at the cottage Gramma was always “done up”.
Before losing her eyesight, she loved to read, garden, knit, sew and craft. She volunteered with the NHH Auxiliary at Petticoat Lane.
Special thanks to Dr. Kwok for his years of care and kindness to Heather. Also, thank you to the staff at Victoria Retirement Living for your thoughtful care allowing her to maintain her dignity.
Cremation will be followed by a private Family Service at Fairview Cemetery at a later date.
If desired, donations can be made to Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation or the Northumberland Humane Society.
