Died peacefully at home with his wife of 26 years Susan Penney DeSousa. He was born in Portugal on June 4th, 1950. He was a lieutenant in the Portuguese Navy. Jorge was a quiet, loving and devoted husband, kind and honest and always a gentleman. He was well liked and respected by his friends and colleagues, having retired from SEW Eurodrive, Brampton after 33 years of service as Corporate Engineering Manager. On July 17, 2017 he became a proud Canadian Citizen and on June 26th, 2023 moved to Cobourg so he could enjoy his remaining time walking beside the beach and lakeshore that he loved. He will be sadly missed and always lovingly remembered by wife Sue, son Claudio (Germany), brother Jose De Sousa (Portugal), sister and brother in-law Linda and Nigel Toohey (UK), nephew and niece Pete and Claire Lasko (Ontario) and life time friends Robert and Catherine Hunter. At Jorge’s request there will be no service.
I worked with Jorge for 10 years at SEW. Jorge had an amazing memory. If I ever needed to find out what was done in the past, he would be the person I would go to and he always had an answer. We had many conversations about our Portuguese heritage and would sometimes speak to each other in Portuguese in the office. Jorge had a calming presence to him and was looked up to by many of his coworkers. He was missed when he retired and will continue to be missed. He will always be remembered. My condolences to Sue, his family and friends. Rest in Peace.
On the 22nd, I got some terrible news. My former boss, mentor, the man who shaped some of my views on life, work, human interactions, had passed away. I’ve never met someone as equally composed, smart and quietly patient as him. It is not that common at this stage of our careers to have mentors who shape our intellect, professional interests in general. But he did that. I hope that everyone, when such people cross their paths, never take people like Jorge for granted. I certainly did not. Rest in peace Jorge.
Jorge, an old and benevolent soul, has just returned once more to his spiritual home, where he will reunite with other loved ones, with the certainty that his mission in this life has been fulfilled. His hallmark was undoubtedly his calmness in all situations and his gentle manner, a trait of great souls. I hold in my memory the last time I was physically with him in Canada, together with the dear and sweet Sue, to whom I send a heartfelt, warm embrace during this difficult time for her, hoping to see her again soon. Jorge, in my future return to the spiritual home, we will surely meet again. Rest in the eternal lightness of Being.
My dear and beloved brother, you have always been an inspiring example to me, and l miss you very much and always will. You always be remembered with great love, affection and respect.⁹
I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Sue, Claudio, family and Friends. I worked along side Jorge for 27 years and then I was fortunate enough to have Jorge as my supervisor for the remaining 5 years. He was a pleasant person and joy to take on applications at various customers. On my very first visit with Jorge we we driving up north when he pulled out a road map. I t Old Jorge I know the way but he said it was to point out the interesting locations we were passing by. Jorge was an excellent engineer. Never got excited and if an unsettlement arose he was quick to smooth things out. I can honestly say that I was proud of having Jorge as a supervisor and will dearly miss him. But never to be forgotten. Rest in Peace my Friend. Cliff Lester
I had the privilege to work with Jorge at SEW from my first day at the company in June, 1999. As a young new guy in engineering, I needed a mentor and Jorge quickly became it. Jorge was the guy that helped me day in and day out navigate the new world of drive engineering (to me). I spent many days on site commissioning drive systems with Jorge. Whenever there was a problem that I could not solve, Jorge was always there to help out. Jorge had an almost photographic memory. All of Jorge's documents from the decades of his work at SEW were organized in binders that were not labelled but he knew where each and every one was. I enjoyed laughing about the normal things that can happen in an office environment. Jorge used to say to me "we could write cartoons" about the goings on at work. Jorge spoke numerous languages. He used to read German or French newspapers, even if they were old. I used to enjoy being in a training with trainers from our German HQ along with Jorge as they would often openly discuss what the real issues were in German, thinking no one would understand them and then having Jorge update us on what the real situation was. When my wife and I were looking for our first house in Brampton, it was at the same time as Sue and Jorge were also looking for their house. They ended up on Mara Crescent and we on Elderwood, just a walk from each other through the Etobicoke Creek path. Jorge was an incredibly smart engineer. I cannot think of anyone that I have ever met that I would trust more than Jorge. Jorge was also incredibly patient and kind. He never needlessly complained about anyone or had a bad thing to say about people. Jorge was a gentle soul. Most of all, Jorge was my friend. I will miss Jorge forever but he will also forever occupy a part of my mind that makes me smile. Rest in peace Jorge. You will be missed and not forgotten. Lyall Watson
My sympathy to all the family
I am so sorry for the loss of Jorge. I had the pleasure of working with Jorge and the Engineering team at SEW-Eurodrive. He was very informative and a pleasure to work under. My sincere condolences to the family.
I worked under Jorge for close to 5 years. He was kind, dedicated and very passionate about his job. Jorge always supported me in my roll. He was easy to talk too and very knowledgeable on just about everything. I am grateful I had the opportunity to be a part of his team. I was sad when he retired. Jorge will be greatly missed. My condolences to Sue and their family.
Pete and I met Jorge in 2011 when he graciously welcomed us into his home for a holiday. Jorge took time to show us around and ensured, along with Sue, that we would have an enjoyable visit. Later, we would spend time with Jorge and Sue at our home in Melbourne, and travelling in Australia and New Zealand. Jorge was a kind, quietly friendly man. He was patient, thoughtful and intelligent, with a fine sense of humour. Jorge was a gentleman, and we are saddened at his passing. Rest in peace Jorge.
I ache with sorrow on the loss of your husband Jorge. You know he is with the angels now and free of pain. May his soul rest with the light of God and Heaven.
I'm so sorry for this terrible loss. I know Jorge was a wonderful man, husband and father. I'm wishing Sue and family peace. You're in my prayers.
I had the pleasure and honour of knowing Jorge for almost 30 years. He was a cheerfully and friendly man that made being in his company a pleasure. We will remember Christmases we spent with Jorge and Sue riding in a horse drawn carriage around the town on a snowy Christmas Eve. We will miss his smile and laugh.
My deepest and most sincere condolences to Jorge's dear family and friends. I had the great opportunity to meet Jorge during company business meetings, where we developed a great friendship and partnership, mainly because, as a Brazilian, we were able to communicate in his native language, Portuguese. His always calm, cautious, clever and fun style matched my personality very well, which made us partners in all the meetings we attended. The good times we spent together will remain in my memory forever. Wilians

Sue, so sorry to hear of Jorge's passing. The two of you were such welcome additions to our shuffleboard group. I enjoyed Jorge's sense of humour as his skill at the game improved and he was able to overpower my efforts with glee.Rest well Jorge.
