George passed away unexpectedly at home in Cobourg at the age of 68. He had an inquisitive, intelligent mind and he maintained boundless curiosity about science, mathematics, and the environment. A graduate of the University of Waterloo in Mathematics and Computer Science and Mount St. Vincent University with a Bachelor of Education, George enjoyed sharing the knowledge he gained from his voracious reading of scientific journals. George also enjoyed music and took an active role in singing with his great friends at Trinity United Church. He was passionate about nature and loved his pets. He will be deeply missed by his daughters Alice McMurtry (Evan McMurtry) and Laura McClintock (Robert Ormston), and their mother, Marianne Marusic; his brother John (Vina Broderick), his sisters Margaret and Elizabeth, nephew Tom, and nieces Ujarak and Victoria. Ever the explorer, George had a profound appreciation for nature and gained solace from many camping and hiking trips across Canada. George marched to the beat of his own drum, and his absence will be felt by everyone who knew him. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 4th 2025 at Trinity United Church. A reception will follow. Donations may be made to Ontario Nature or the Northumberland Humane Society.

Dear Geor; so very sorry to hear of your untimely passing and the fact that I will not be able to see you again or to say goodbye. Please find comfort or solace in the many good memories people had of you or the many faceted people whom lives you touched and who loved (and continue to love) you. At least there will be a memorial service to commemorate your life and your many accomplishments. Godspeed, George.

George was a treasured brother, friend, comfort and support to me throughout our lives together. He was a loving brother-in-law and uncle. My very deepest condolences to all of you, George's family. I only came to know George through our exchanges on Facebook, via posts and a variety of messages. We had mutual friends in Cobourg. I felt like we were kindred spirits in many ways and was very much looking forward to meeting him. So saddened that he is suddenly gone. I will miss our exchanges and his super interesting posts. I hope his memory will serve as a blessing long into the future.
I will miss George at our Thursday night suppers at St. Peters Church. I was always greeted with a friendly smile and a handshake He was an extremely intelligent person who often amazed me with his knowledge concerning a variety of subjects. Please accept our deepest condolences. It was a pleasure to meet and chat with George. Cherish the happy memories!
George was definitely one of a kind. We met in Scouts back in 1970 and became good friends right away. We shared similar interests and our eccentricities complimented each other. So many good memories of camping trips, Texas BBQs, hunting caribou in Arviat... the list goes on. Despite the challenges he faced George held onto his passion for life, music, knowledge, his pets and most of all, his daughters Alice and Laura. George was a good friend. A true friend. I don't think there's a higher tribute you can give.
We were so sad to hear the news of George's passing. We have many fond memories of sharing New Year's celebrations with George and Marianne in the past, and always admired George's wide range of knowledge and quirky sense of humour. Heartfelt condolences to all those who loved him, but most particularly Alice, Laura, and Marianne.
I volunteered with George NHS thrift shop, he loved to talk to the customers. He could talk about anything. Rest in peace George

So very sorry to hear this sad news. George was everything that has been said about him in this obit. Trinity choir will miss him. Trinity Church will miss him. To quote the last lines of Robert Priest's tender poem: Arise, and fly with wings of wind I pray Go free and gentle into that good night Go clear into the everlasting light.
I will miss George! I sang with him in the Trinity Choir and with The Memory Lane Singers. From time to time we got together to walk our dogs. I was always intrigued by his amount of knowledge, his sense of humour, and his caring! My deepest sympathies to all who loved George!

Please know that George is on his next adventure with His Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven and from all reports and accounts I have listened to, it is the most awesome experience of love, joy and peace and he is celebrating with Jesus this year. 💝 🕊️
