It is with heavy hearts the family of Rick McEntee announce his passing at the Northumberland Hills Hospital Monday, December 9, 2024 at the age of 73. Loved dad to Tracie McEntee and Aaron McEntee and loved grandpa to Mallory Shaver. Rick will be deeply missed by his siblings Judy (Evan) Geldart, Carol Desgagnes, Mary McEntee and Paul McEntee. Rick is the son of the late Helen and John McEntee and is pre-deceased by his sisters, Debbie Archer and Cindy McEntee.
Rick was a man with a kind and generous heart. He often put others before himself and ensured that he supported and donated to his local community. An avid sportsman, cheering for the Toronto Maple Leaf’s and Toronto Blue Jays. He enjoyed spending his time watching sports games. He stayed a loyal fan, even though the Leaf’s didn’t always give him reason to. If it was not sports, he would often be watching his reality TV such as Survivor or Big Brother. Rick enjoyed the sun and water and often traveled to Barbados. Above all else, Rick loved his family. He was immensely proud of his children and most especially his granddaughter, Mallory. Rick meant so much to his family and will be so deeply missed.
As per Rick’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday April 5th, from 2:30pm - 5:00pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 133, Cobourg. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Diabetes Canada in memory of Rick
I'm sorry for this very late submission. Have only learned just now of Rick's passing. I worked with Rick in the Cobourg Ambulance Service a very long ago, about 45 years, but my memory of him is crystal clear. He was larger than life and a really stand-up man. I remember his eldest child's birth. He was so proud of and excited about with that wee darling! What I remember most about Rick is that he had a very big, tender heart of gold, and would do anything for anyone. Had a fantastic sense of humour and was constantly telling jokes. With my being the rookie on the team, he always encouraged me, praised my efforts and helped me learn the ropes. The world is a sadder place now and I am very sorry for the loss of your dear loved one. Sincerely, Marie (Gilbert) VanderWyngaard
To the McEntee…I am so sorry to hear of Rick’s passing. I met Rick in June of 1990 at the Cobourg Hospital as I was just diagnosed with diabetes. Rick was a positive upbeat diabetic himself which with his positive words helped my outlook on my future with this disease. Rick looked quite fit himself. Through my 34 years of having diabetes I would often reflect back to Rick and his positive words and outlook on life to get through some tuff realities of having diabetes. I would want him to know that after 34 years I have now been transplanted with a new kidney and pancreas, and no longer have diabetes. Ricks very inspirational words helped me get through it all. Thank you Rick, rest easy my friend.
So sorry to hear of Rick’s passing he will be sadly missed, my condolences to the McEntee family!
