Justine passed on at Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg, Ontario, after a courageous fight with cancer.
From her early years, Justine was distinguished by a love of learning and gifted intelligence. Justine graduated from The Toronto French School as an Ontario scholar. She went on to graduate from the University of Toronto and Ontario Teachers College. She taught French for the Durham School Board and then became a home room teacher. She was a member of Mensa Canada. Justine was funny and could joke with the best of them. She loved books, especially those set in history. She had a very big heart.
With her special gifts, Justine could have done anything, but her love of children led her to a career in teaching.
Justine’s greatest joy came from her three darling children. She was a devoted mother to Liam, Niamh and Asher. They meant the world to her.
Justine is deeply mourned by her mother, Linda N. Syrota (formerly Sullivan); her sister, Camille and her husband, Jimmy; her sister, Chloé, and her brother, Danny; her husband and children’s father, Ian Daly; her uncle, Douglas Syrota; and her stepmother, Lauren Sullivan and Lauren’s sister, Linny. She was very loved by her grandparents, Norman and Catherine Syrota, after whom she was named.
Her father, Paul J. Sullivan, Q.C., passed on just one day before Justine.
Justine’s friends, Aurelia, Mel, and Marco deserve special mention for their loving actions and unswerving support.
There will be a celebration of life in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg.
Linda, My heartfelt condolences and wishing you love and strength in the coming time. Big hug. Adri
May you wait for us in the beautiful meadows which your smile will enhance, my luminous friend
I was so devastated to read this news yesterday. I was a schoolmate of Justine's until grade 7, so my memories of her are from our childhood, although I did see her once when we were young adults. We were not close, but I liked her. Thoughts of her evoke senses of kindness and empathy. My heart breaks for her, her children, and other loved ones. I can only imagine how difficult this all has been. I wish them all love, strength, and eventual solace.
We are deeply sorry for your loss and are keeping you in our thoughts during this difficult time.
I am saddened and shocked to hear of Justine’s passing. Although, I only knew her for couple of years in the lower grades of TFS, she had left a distinct impression with me till this day. I am glad to have known her.
I just learned this shocking news and I am so sad. I have so many amazing memories with Justine… from our many years at TFS, rooming together at UofT, and being neighbours on Bayview… so glad I got to speak with her not too long ago. Sending aAlll my love to Ian and the kids, and to Camille, Chloé, Danny and the rest of the family. Please let me know the details of the celebration of life planned for the spring as I would love to be there.

I’m very sad to hear this news. My heart goes out to everyone in Justine’s circle. I attended the Toronto French School with Justine, and considered her a friend. Although it’s been many, many years since we’ve we were last in contact, I remember her as a warm person; the kind of person who could brighten the day of friends, family and a acquaintances alike.
I remember Justine from our teenage years. She was the girl who had it all. Yet no one begrudged her that because she was lovely both inside and out. What a terrible loss for her family and friends. You are in my thoughts.
