Elizabeth- or Betty as many of us knew her- embraced life with joy and an insatiable curiosity about everything. Family meant the world to her and there is nothing she cherished more than to spend time with all of them. Elizabeth was an avid reader, a passionate gardener, a keen birder and an enthusiastic traveler. Her lifelong interest in Indigenous culture fueled her strong advocacy for improving their quality of life.
Her commitment to her community was evident through her extensive and dedicated volunteer service. Her efforts were recognized with numerous honours including, The Order of Red Cross, Queen’s Jubilee Medal, Canada 125 Medal and the Governor General of Canada’s, Minister of Affairs Commendation.
Alongside her husband Roy, Betty worked tirelessly through the Merchant Navy Association to secure recognition for Merchant Navy personnel as Veterans of the WW II, making them eligible for the same benefits as other branches. She volunteered at the Broadmead Veteran’s Lodge and served on the Board.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday November 23, 2024 at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St. E. Cobourg from 1-4pm.

It was with profound sadness that I learned of the loss of my dear friend and colleague Betty. I extend my heartfelt sympathies to all her wonderful family especially the wonderful daughters and all the assorted Lovekins and Chandlers. You were all so important to Betty and had so many good times together. I'm sure you will find support with each other in this difficult time. Betty was a perfect supportive colleague for many years at Red Cross and I have so many fond memories of that time. She became a good friend as well, and we had some fun trips at Red Cross and good times with many of you in Cobourg. Her intelligence, and easy going good humour made her loved by so many. Her achievements were so many and she so well deserved all the recognition she received. She leaves behind so much good, and will be sorely missed.
Rod and I are so sorry for your loss. Sending hugs.
