Elizabeth Glenda Smith

May 15, 1938 - October 3, 2024

Peacefully with family by her side at the Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, Elizabeth Glenda “Bette” Smith at 86 years of age. Beloved wife of the late Gerald Laurence “Jerry” Smith for 65 wonderful years. Cherished mother of Vickie Dahmer (Ken), John Smith, Michael Smith (Lisa). Devoted grandmother of Kerrie McFadden (Durran), Mellissa Dahmer, Tyler Dahmer, Britanee Smith (Jay), Lucas Smith (Kyrah), William Smith (Rebeka), and great-grandmother of Finnley, Simon, Ryleigh, Macy, Brooks and Rhett. Dear sister of Barb Paterson and the late Patricia Burns.

Elizabeth was a giver. She loved her family dearly and is fondly remembered for her cooking and baking, especially pies and desserts. She was an exceptional grandmother to six grandchildren and a great grandmother to six great-grandchildren and never missed a graduation. Her kind-hearted nature extended beyond her family as she dedicated her working and volunteer life at Brookside, helping youth suffering from addiction.

A Funeral Service will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St. E., in Cobourg on Monday, October 7th, at 12 pm with visitation one hour prior, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. A reception will follow the service in the funeral home reception centre. Cremation to follow with later interment at Cobourg Union Cemetery. Those wishing may make a memorial donation to The Heart and Stroke Foundation. Condolences received at www.MacCoubrey.com.

Bette and I met many years ago at Brooksde Youth Centre. We worked in clinical services, Bette as an addiction counselor and volunteer coordinator. Bette in her capacity brought many new programs that enriched the lives of the young people. Bette displayed compassion, empathy, kindness, and was extremely supportive and knowledgeable in her dealings with the youth. Bette became a close friend and confidant over our many years of friendship. We were together recently and enjoyed a meal and conversation. Bette loved and cherished her family, and spoke of them with me. She was also interested in others which is often overlooked in our busy lives. Bette you are loved and I will miss you my dear friend. My heartfelt condolences to all of Bette’s family members. Anne and Doug
