Mary Palmer

March 16, 1931 - September 20, 2024

Mary Palmer, nee Wasylyk, beloved wife of the late Eric Sydney Lee Palmer, passed away peacefully in her home with her son Gregory by her side, in the early morning hours of dawn Friday September 20th, 2024. Born on March 16th 1931 Mary lived a magical and full life filled with love, adventure and laughter...always remaining strong, stoic and beautiful even in the face of hardships and tragedies. Mary was the youngest of four children (sister Olga, brothers Joseph and Steve) born to proud Ukrainian parents Sofia and Dmytro. Spending her very early years in the small francophone community of Limoges Ontario, her first languages were Ukrainian and French! She spent her happy tween years in Toronto where she attended Central Tech High School and enjoyed strolling the boardwalk with friends at Sunnyside Amusement Park. However the real adventure of her life began at the ripe age of 18, not on the city streets of Toronto, but in the sleepy inlet of Lakeport Ontario, 140 km east of the big city, where her parents moved the family to become farmers. It was on a typical quiet summer day when Mary was in the Lakeport corner store with her best friend when the handsome and debonair Eric came in and offered to buy a young boy in the shop an ice cream. Mary's friend asked her, "Who's that?" and Mary replied, "I don't know but if he asked me to marry him today I would!". Well he did some days later and she said yes. Mary very fondly would recount the story of that fateful day often, the day she met the love of her life Eric. Mary and Eric had 65 love filled years together, many of those spent as pillars of the community in Lakeport. Mary and Eric were formidable and generous hosts and their farm home always had the door open to welcome friends and family alike. Mary is survived by her daughter Suzanne (the late Paul), son Eric (Jackie), son Mark (Gail), son Gregory, and the late Douglas, granddaughters Stephanie (Larry), Christine (Scott), Erica (Rod), grandsons Luke and Nick, and beloved great-grandchildren Giacomo, Luca, Olivia, Ava, Samantha, Coleton, Jack, and treasured nephews David (Moira), John and Frank, and nieces Zoya, Natalie, Julie and Denise and their families. Words cannot express the tender love she gave and the love felt for her by all she touched in her 93 years with us. Mary is surely at home again with the angels above.
A special service will take place on Friday September 27th at 1pm at Lakeport Cemetery - All are invited and most welcome to attend.
