Dorey Neiss and Mel Greenglass - September 26, 2024

Dear Awender family. Ken has been driving our car to and from Florida for many years. We considered him a friend who we trusted explicitly. The news of this terrible tragedy hit us hard; not because we have to find a new driver this year, but because we lost a great, personable guy we really enjoyed having in our lives. We hope all your wonderful memories of your times together sustain you through this sad time and beyond.

Rob Pascoe - September 26, 2024

My deepest sympathies to Anne Marie and Madison. Having worked with Ken for over 5 years on 24hour shifts, his true qualities stood out. He was a fun loving, hard working, caring, family man. He was proud of his family and being a firefighter, both full time and part time. He wouldn't hesitate to stand up for what he believed in and also for others, always willing to help. He's truly going to be remembered and missed by everyone who met him. RIP Brother.

Gary Turner - September 26, 2024

Ken you were so good at your job. You never missed an address “lights and sirens”. The public we served were lucky to have such a dedicated firefighter watching over them like an angel. You have left us too soon brother. Rest in peace.

Andy McGill - September 25, 2024

Anne Marie, Madison and family Karen and I were shocked to learn of Ken's sudden passing. I last saw Ken in the late summer of last year at a dinner get together with a number of friends. I first met Ken in grade nine in Scarborough. (many years ago) Had the opportunity to experience many great things, and hold on to the many awesome memories, as a result. Ken always had that mischievous look like he was up to something. Always had a smile on his face, and a genuine concern for all of us. Willing to lend a hand when ever possible. We can't forget the "three stogies" impersonations that were a constant source of entertainment. We were so fortunate to have had Ken into our lives. A Toast to Ken..... What an awesome guy Andy & Karen McGill

My heart aches for all you guys, unfortunately I didn’t get a ton of time spent with Ken but from the times I have he was truly an inspiration and incredibly kind of person who had a heart of gold and would give his shirt off he’s back to help someone out! I will never forget at my birthday dinner him kissing my head and we laughed about it weeks later Anne Marie and I. I’m so truly grateful I was able to spend the bit of time I did. Rest easy Ken don’t have to many land sharks up there, love all you guys who are dealing with this huge loss
