Teresa Mary Bowen

December 9, 1923 - September 23, 2024

Peacefully at Ed’s House. Daughter of the late Mary (nee Kelly) and Patrick Walsh. Predeceased by her husband John Edward “Jack” Bowen, and her brother John Walsh (Anne). Loving mother of the late Patrick (BJ), John (Nancy), Anne (the late Ken), and Catherine (Arnold). Grandmother of Greg (Andrea), Scott (Kelsey), Brad (Kinsey), Paul (Carlo), Amy (Dave), Rachel (Mason), and Rebecca (Chase). Cherished “Little Grandma” to Mackenzie and the late Grace, great grandma to Addison and Scott, and GG to Kaia. Survived by sisters-in-law Barbara and Dorothy Bowen. Fondly remembered by Barb Bowen. Teresa lived life to the fullest. She loved barbecued hotdogs, scotch, gin and raisins, carpet bowling, lawn bowling, line dancing, and square dancing. She never missed darts, bridge, putt putt, bean bag toss, St. Michael’s Mass, coffee morning, or an ice cream parlor. She will certainly be missed by her second-family at Legion Village. Thank you to Northumberland Paramedics, NHH ER, NHH Unit 2B, and Ed’s House for the exceptional and compassionate care provided to Teresa and her family. A visitation will be held Friday September 27th from 2 – 4pm and 7 – 9pm at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King Street East Cobourg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday September 28th at 12pm at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 379 Division Street Cobourg, followed by interment at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Donations in remembrance of Teresa would be gratefully accepted by Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice, Legion Village Activity Department, and the Grace Bowen Tribute Fund.

Nancy Bowen - September 24, 2024

I am not sure if it’s customary for a direct family member to post on a loved one’s memorial board but here goes. I will break the rules. I have said from day one of knowing John how much I loved his mom. I could not have asked for a better mother-in-law. She never criticized me and she had plenty reason to, believe me! She was so positive and encouraging and was never the typical “mother-in-law”. A quality I am striving for with my own daughter in-laws. Something special between us was her trust in me. I was a confidant and she would write me letters often for many years and I have them all. Teresa and I had a week together almost every summer at my cottage on Lake of Bays. Our boys would treasure these visits and time with Gramma Bowen. She always arrived with a goodie bag for each of them with all their favourite things. She didn’t miss a thing. She also didn’t miss a meal. Man could she pack the food in. That tiny little woman could eat more than my big boys. One final memory to share is the shopping trips we had at Sherway Gardens. Teresa would make friends with everyone in every store and would get her wardrobe for that season. She had beautiful clothes and took such good care of herself. Lessons from my dear mother-in-law I hope to implement going forward. 1. Be interested in people and their families. Ask them about themselves. 2. EAT, DRINK, enjoy your meals but have balance and take care of yourself. 3. Have faith. Teresa was a woman of God. She was faithful and dedicated. I will miss her but I celebrate her fabulous 100 year life!

My sincerest condolences to Teresa's family. Teresa and I always had a few laughs when I checked on her daily at the Legion Village. What a funny, loving woman. I did try the gin and raisins, as she said they are good for your overall health, oh boy were they, especially taking them in the mornings. Teresa was always on the go, she never stopped even when she wasn't feeling her best. Teresa will be missed terribly by all that knew her. God Bless Teresa you are out of pain and are in God's hands now.

Janette Pelletier (& Carl Corter) - September 23, 2024

When I (Jan) think of sweet Mrs. Bowen, it is definitely in the Muskoka cottage setting when she came to visit John and the family. I remember how much she loved the lake and the trees, my sister Nancy's great cooking, and John's barbecuing. She also loved poking around the little stores in the towns on the lake and often bought a little top that always looked so cute on her. It was amazing how well she remembered details of all the family members' lives (even mine) and was so proud of her grandsons Scott and Brad, their wives Kelsey and Kinsey and her great-granddaughter Kaia. She also talked about all the other family members with such affection. I know how much she will be missed and I am glad that I had a chance to get to know her on those cottage visits.
