Passed away peacefully at Ed’s House after a lengthy illness. Beloved husband for 44 years of Marian (Hand, nee Ardis). Cherished step-father to Lorraine Ottolini (Steven) and Brian Hand (Patsy). Loving Gramps to Katie (Bianka) and Robyn Ottolini, Brianna Hand and Amanda Kirkton (Nicholas). Son of the late Leonard and Muriel Wakely. Brother to Garry and Bill, predeceased by Mary, Judy, Philip, Wendy and Richard. Special uncle to Kim (K.D.) Wright. Loved by many nieces and nephews.
Paul loved his family, sports, gardening and the Habs. He was an accomplished hockey player winning many championships and scoring titles. His impeccable talent for the game gave him the opportunity to travel the world. He was also a very talented ball player who played on multiple Ontario Championship teams. In his career, Paul was a skilled plumber and was very dedicated to his craft.
He adored his grandchildren, always cracking jokes, drawing and cherishing his time with them. He took pride in imparting them with valuable life skills, like teaching them to skate and garden, staying clean during meals with a paper towel in hand, and to always see the bright, humorous side of life. He loved Molson's Export, chocolate ice cream, raw onions, and lots of pepper (on everything!). But above all else, the greatest love of his life was his wife, Marian. They complimented one another, two halves of a whole. Paul will be dearly missed by his family and friends, and never forgotten. As per Paul’s wishes, a private family celebration will take place at a later date. Donations in Paul’s memory can be made to Ed’s House or the charity of your choice.
Marian, Lorraine, and Brian, Baltimore has lost a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He was a fine example on how to live your life by his actions and words. Paul's plumbing skills were highly sought after. I played lob ball with Paul and I admired his finese and sportsmanship. He was one of the team veterans and he led us on and off the field. We had many chats in his front yard as I was coming home from work. I will miss his smile, laugh and his good-natured teasing. I will cherish my memories of Paul. He will be sorely missed by many. Rest well, my friend. Paul Douglas "Shorty" Wakely June 26, 1939 - September 18, 2024 ~ REST IN PEACE ~

So sorry to hear of Paul’s passing. I have great memories of intermediate and old timers hockey games we played together. He was so well thought of in the many sports he excelled in through the years. May your memories bring comfort to you and your family.
It is always so tragic to see a good friend or relative lose their mate in life. I found out from Marian several days after Paul passed on. Marian was my wife's Patricia best friend since they were younge children. Over the years I met Pat, my other better half and eventually met a very nice man Paul through Marian. Marian and Paul got married and had a very close and full life together. I am so sorry to see tragedy of this kind happen to a family and know first hand the pain and emptiness it can cause. We all have memories of good times and will never forget our loved ones. Keep your family and friends close to you Marian, they will carry you on. I too have my many pictures and memories, but it still hurts deep in my heart when looking at the pictures often in quiet moments. Keep your family close and try and go on. ( Trying to find words of comfort always seems so pitiful.) There is a picture in my head that reflects Paul. I am sure he is watching a TV program somewhere of his favorite hockey or baseball teams, beer in one hand and screaming at the play before him. Marian, get me another beer please. Can't miss this play.

To Marian and Paul's family: We are so very sorry for your loss. Baltimore has lost another strong pillar of the community who was admired by all who knew him for his love of family, love of sports, quick wit and integrity. Shorty and Mike were team mates on the original Baltimore Old Timers lob ball team that formed in the mid 1980's. The guys played ball and the wives cheered (sometimes jeered) them on. Later on a small group of us played cards once a month. We rotated partners and when Paul was my partner he would give me a very understanding "what the heck" look when I would get us euchred. But if I did it again the look this time said "what the heck are you doing". We will miss you Paul. R.I.P. old friend. Say hello to the Richard brothers for us. Go Habs Go!
Marion, very sorry to learn the passing of Paul sending my condolences to family members.

We cherish these memories, Paul was a very special person to us all, always taking the time to visit & chat with us all. We will miss him, RIP Shorty, love from the Miller Family XO
Although a Wakely from the other side of the family tree, I'm sending my warmest condolences. Paul and my dad Harold (Flipper) shared some fun filled times in Port Hope. May he now rest in peace.

Our hearts are broken . We have been lucky to have had Paul and Marian as our friends for 35 years and neighbours for 30 . Paul was the best neighbour and friend. He looked after our pets , dogs, cats and house and even a lizard as Marian reminded me recently . We looked after their house , Simon , Sophia , Sam and Elmo . He fixed our plumbing at times. We had a trip to Myrtle Beach together . We saw the grandchildren grown up and they saw our sons and grandkids growing up . Paul was always friendly with a "Hi Bruce , how are you " in the driveway up at their house down to ours . The thing that sums up the best I think is the gate from our backyard to theirs , that was what our friendship was . An open gate . We are honored to have known Paul , a great guy, an accomplished hockey player, a great plumber , a great husband and grandpa and dad and a great friend. Our hearts are with you all , Marian , Brian, Patsy Steven, Lorraine , Amanda , Brianna , Katie and Robin. Pauls brothers and niece . Rest now Paul, we will miss you . The Voycey family
Marion, Lorraine & Steven, Brian & Patsy & families Lots of great memories of spending time with Shorty & Marion over the years..
Dear Marian and family, I send my sincerest condolences upon reading the announcement of Paul's passing. He was an inspiring athlete to watch playing hockey at the P.C.M.R. or baseball at the Agricultural Park, when I was an aspiring young boy, who wondered if it might be possible one day, to emulate the efforts of Paul and his teammates on the ice and field. I had the distinct pleasure of briefly being Paul's "plumber's helper" while employed with Ted Miller's company and truly enjoyed our co-worker conversations throughout the workday. Over later years it was always a pleasure to run into "Shorty" in the community and have a catch-up conversation about life and it was always clear to me that his positive outlook of life remained rooted with his family. Paul experienced a life well lived. Sincerely, Ron
As you turn to each other and recall the ways your dear one brought joy to so many days...may it comfort you now and help ease your sorrow to know that together you'll face each tomorrow. With deepest sympathy, Marian, to you and your family With love from Adele and family God speed, Paul.
We are sorry to hear of Shorty’s passing, our thoughts and prayers are with you all ❤️❤️❤️
Patsy Brian, Brianna and Amanda My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
