GLADYS MARGARET HINCHLIFFE (nee FIRTH) of Cobourg, ON passed away peacefully on Monday July 22, 2024 at Northhumberland Hills Hospital, at age 90. Born April 30, 1934, she was the daughter of Percy Firth and Elsie Purshouse of Yorkshire, England.
Predeceased by husband William Hinchliffe, son Christopher, brothers Horace, Edwin, Arthur, Wynford, Walter, Leslie and sisters Betty and Mary. Lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her son Ron (Jan), Neil (Lorraine), daughter in law Lyn, Granddaughters Jennifer, Ashley, Lisa, and Grandson Ken, 7 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great, Great Grandchildren, and her many nieces and nephews in England.
Marg and Billie moved to South Africa with their 3 sons in 1960, and following Billie’s death she came to Canada in the 1963 to live with her sister Mary and husband Ken who would help raise her 3 sons. Marg and Mary (or M&M as they were known) would go on to spend the majority of their lives living together.
Marg’s first job in Canada was as a Hairdresser, and she would later go to work for George Brown College where she remained until her retirement. Marg loved travelling, building doll houses, and playing table tennis. In the 1970s Marg was the Ontario Women’s Table Tennis Champion.
Known as a sociable, fun-loving and caring person, always looking for a good laugh and usually with a joke or two on hand to tell at any time. She was a friend to many and loved by everyone who met her.
Neil, Lorraine and family. Sending heartfelt condolences, keeping you in my thoughts.
So sorry to hear that she has left us. I so looked forward to our crazy monthly chats over the last 58 or so years. Rest easy my other mother.
All my condolences for the family. Marg was a good friend. We enjoyed miniatures and fish and chips, and many laughs. She will be missed.
Neil, Lorraine and family. So sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. She was always one of the "fun people" on the many trips she took with us.
Deepest condolences to Marg's family. I met Marg decades ago through our mutual dollhouse hobby. We shared many days at miniature meetings and shows and making regular trips to a favourite shop in Port Perry. No outing was complete without a fish and chip lunch. Even as her health started to decline she remained active in the hobby for a long time. When she had to give up independent living, I was fortunate to receive some of her miniatures and will treasure them as a remembrance of her lively company
I’m so glad I had the opportunity to meet and assist in the care for such a lovely lady. She was kind, considerate and so loving. She spoke highly of family especially son Ron. She will be missed and forever remembered.
Sending love and condolences from Susan and Brenda, her nieces (Leslie’s daughters), in Durham! Thinking about all of you.
Sending our deepest condolences to you, Ron, Jan and the entire Hinchliffe clan, and holding you in our thoughts at this difficult time …. Kimberly and Corey
Dear Ron, Jan and family We know this is a difficult time, but our thoughts are with you and your family as you grieve.
Sending love and condolences to all Auntie Margaret's family and friends. From Margaret Firth in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England xxx
