My mom, Hilda Grucela (born Sibold), passed away on July 5, 2024, in Cobourg, Ontario. She was born and raised in the beautiful Black Forest town of Löffingen and was one of eight siblings. Hilda was preceded in death by Adelheid, Klara, Gertrud, Luise, Ewald, and Frieda and is survived by loving brother Franz.
Hilda made her way to Heidelberg where she worked at the US military base, then met and married Antoni Grucela. Together they immigrated to Canada in 1954 and lived their married life in Ottawa. Family in Germany and the US have wonderful stories and memories of her especially my Uncle Franz, Aunts Hanna and Loni, my cousins Angie,
Andrea, Darlene, Roy, Wolfgang, Linda, Karin, Gertrud, Ulrike and other extended family members as well as friends in Ottawa and Toronto.
Thank you to my husband Kim, brother-in-law Mike (Chantal), the caregivers at Legion Village and Streamway Villa and especially mom's companion Nadine, for the help they gave me in taking care of Hilda.
A celebration of life will be held later in the month at our home.
Rest in peace Mom, you will be missed.
Hilda was one amazing lady. We lived across from her and I remember always going over to see her or spend time with her while growing up. I remember her stories, she had an old doll from when she was younger that I would play with. She had this amazing kindness and warmth to her... she will be greatly missed and i will cherish the memories xoxo
I lived across the street in Ottawa from Hilda’s house. I loved visiting her and listening to her stories about the Black Forest and her family, growing up. My children adored her. She made the best apple crumble pie. When she moved she gave me her old record player and some records, which I still have. She will be forever in my heart ❤️
Dean Carla I would like to Express my condolences today, on the death of your mother. I only knew her through Stories. She was my mother Klara s sister. But I had the great pleasure of getting to know you , Carla. I noticed how close you and your mother were. My thoughts are with you and I wish you all the best. Greatings from Germany Gertrud und Walter
Dear Carla and family, Our deepest condolences to you on the passing of our one-time neighbour, Hilda. She was the person who welcomed me to this neighbourhood and where we still live. I remember her laugh and her stories about the early days in this neighbourhood. Everyone should have such a helpful person right next door. We were sorry to lose her when she moved to be close to you and your family but it was lovely not to lose the connection of our once-a-year Christmas cards. We will not forget her many kindnesses. Love and deep sympathy, Angela and Patrick
I would hereby like to send my sincere deep heartfelt condolences to Carla, Angie, Wolfgang and the rest of the family on the passing away of Hilde Sibold Grucela that I knew through Angie Decker for over 40years. I last saw her when she, Angie and Wolfgang visited me in 2008 for a sort few days in Gatineau and during which we really had some wonderful moments. She was bubbly, talkative, cracked quite a few jokes, and looked really happy. I will miss her, and may her soul rest in peace for she really was a kind and nice person.

Carla and I are cousins. We grew up together in Ottawa-Hull. Our mothers were sisters and German immigrants. As such, we were a very close family. Like all immigrants, our parents worked hard to make a better life for Carla and me. I will always remember my aunt Hilde for her generosity, hospitality, and fantastic cheesecake! She inherited her father's temperament but that also made her interesting and fun to be with. As my godmother I was particularly spoiled by my 'Tante' Hilde. I will keep her in my mind and heart for as long as I live. Hope 'life' on the other side is good to you Hilde! You certainly deserve it! Your 'favourite' niece Angie
Carla and Kim , my sincerest condolences on the loss of your Mother. Hilda was my favorite person. Meeting her at We-Fix-U, then working with her at Legion Village was a joy. I loved her, and I know she loved me, as she constantly told me so. Hilda's smile was contagious, and celebrating her 90th birthday was such a joy. Losing your Mother is a very hard emotion to go through. God Bless to both of you.

Hilda and I shared a name (my first name is Hilda) and a birthday. From the first day we met here at Legion Village we had a bond of friendship and I have missed seeing her here since she was moved to Streamway Villa. I am sad to learn of her passing and will remember her in the days to come with fondness and caring.
Hilda was a pleasure to care for. I will miss hearing all her stories and seeing Benny on her bed. Wishing you comfort in these times. All my love.
I’m saddened by this announcement but in my heart I know she’s smiling down. She was a pleasure to have in my shop every week hearing all her childhood stories. Sending heartfelt condolences knowing it’s never easy even when it’s time. Hold all your good memories close.
