Gail Laur

December 7, 1941 - July 1, 2024

Passed away peacefully July 1, 2024 at Ed’s House with family by her side. Born to parents Dorothy and Burton Taylor on Dec. 7, 1941, along with her twin sister (deceased). Gail lived with her brothers Larry and Bobby and sister Bonnie on Orr Street. Orr Street was the family hub, on holidays all families gathered around the dining room table and enjoyed good food, lots of cards and a little wine. In summers the nieces and nephews ran through the sprinklers in the yard. In 1959 Gail went to Sick Kids to get her RN. She stayed in residence and received her diploma in 1963. In 1975 Gail went to McGill where she graduated 1977 with her Bachelors of nursing. She was a trailblazer of the family – first to graduate from university. She caught the travel bug and never stopped! She travelled and was a nurse in California, Toronto and the Territories. She was very proud of her time in Cobourg at the hospital and public health in London. Continuing on the travel theme she travelled with friends and often mother Dorothy all over the globe, including Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Spain, Portugal and her favourite – Greece. Gail was an avid swimmer and was an instructor at the Cobourg pool for years. She also enjoyed teaching the nieces and nephews to swim at the Mann pool. Or swimming at the cottages that she rented for the family each summer. Gail loved spending time with the next generations as well. She was at the birth of her 2 great-nephews and enjoyed holidays at the Kelly house with the great-nieces and great nephews gathered around the tree. A private family celebration of life was held on July 6th. Auntie Gail will be greatly missed. Donations in Gail’s name can be made to Northumberland Hills Hospital or Ed’s House.

I'm so sorry that my former work colleague and dear friend has passed. Her home was my second home when I travelled to Ontario and she was always a most welcoming and fun host. Unfortunately, our more recent visits were by telephone and I wasn't able to say goodbye. RIP Gail. Condolences to Gail's family and special thanks to Robyn and Steve who were a big help to her especially since the move back to Cobourg. I will miss her.

The Taylor Family, Gail was a wonderful cousin for us to have in our lives. She was always full of fun and laughter. She was a big part of our lives when we were young and we all have many, many memories of her; from swimming to skiing, shopping to travelling, or just sitting around and having a good laugh. She was also one who was dedicated to her job. Gail was there to support everyone when it was needed; her family, friends, and patients all received her strength when they were in need of a helping hand. Share your memories of Gail with laughter as that is what she would want you to do. Our condolences to the entire family. Love Shelley & Bert, Jane, Bart & Kirsty, Carol & Steve and their families.
