Alvin Ernest Ramer

May 27, 1940 - June 21, 2024

Alvin Ernest Ramer went to be with Jesus on Friday, June 21 peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born May 27, 1940. Proud and longtime resident of Colborne Ontario for 74 years. The last ten years were happily spent in Ridgeway. Alvin is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Anne and his two precious daughters, Kelly, and Connie, (Isaac). He was the best gramps to Liam (Robyn), Emma, and Joseph (Avery). Left to mourn is his only and dear sister Marlene Gaasbeek and predeceased by his parents and 4-year-old brother Harold. Alvin's lifetime career was with the Colborne Public Utilities, working as a lineman, and finally a manager. He was a man of deep faith who grew up in Prospect Missionary Church. His parents were Treasurer and Board Member. His loyalty to his friends was unmatched. He was a master woodworker, an esteemed spinning tool maker and a friend of ground water. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Che, Dr. Acosta and all of the amazing team at the Hamilton Health Sciences whose care for Dad was exceptional. The PSWs from Paramed gave loving care during the last days of his life. A visitation will be held at Crystal Ridge Community Church, 241 Elmwood Ave, Crystal Beach on Wednesday June 26th, 2024 at 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral service at 12:00 Noon. If desired, donations in memory of Alvin can be made to Crystal Ridge Community Church.

MESSAGES OF CONDOLENCE / DONATIONS

Melissa Lilje (nee Boreham) - July 9, 2024

Dear Mrs. Ramer, Kelly, Connie, Isaac and family. My deepest condolences of the loss of Mr Ramer! You are all in our thoughts and prayers!

Heidi Buchegger - July 8, 2024

I was very sorry to read of Mr Ramer's passing. Condolences to his dear wife and family. I remember Mr Ramer as a quiet spoken, faithful husband, father and supportive church member at Colborne's Prospect Missionary Church--much like his Mother and Father before him. He and Barbara Anne would patiently drive a group to OT classes at Temple Beth Israel in Peterborough for a number of weeks, possessing warm hearts towards GOD's Word and kindness towards people. Comfort and peace to each one at this time of sorrow.

Doug and Ursula Clark - July 4, 2024

Sincere condolences on the passing of Alvin. He was not just a nice person but a good person. Connie and our Angela were close friends in public school and Doug's family were neighbors. Cherish your memories! Doug and Ursula Clark

Mrs. Ramer, Kelly, Connie, Isaac and grandchildren I grew up calling you by MR. and MRS. I feel strange calling you both by your given. I have so much to say and nothing I can say will ease the pain you are feeling at this difficult time. I have a lot of memories growing up across the road from you. I spent a lot of afternoons in your back yard. I seen how much love Mr. Ramer had for his beautiful girls and his wonderful wife. I have a memory that has stuck with me. You had been in Hospital and was finally able to come home. I was waiting to see Mr. Ramer bring you home. A few days later he walked home for lunch. It's funny how the neighbors knew your routine. Lol. He was a man that walked to work and home twice a day. It was only a 4 minute walk. Lol . Anyways it was a nice sunny day and a bit of a breeze. He set up the lounging chair and a table on the veranda. He held your arm and walked you to the chair and sat you down. He took a throw and covered you up. He kissed you on the forehead and off to work he went. About 2 hours later up the street walked gramma and grampa Ramer. They helped you back in. The reason this memory jumped at me is this. Mr. Ramer is the true definition of what a Son, Husband, Dad, Grampa, Friend and a GENTLEMAN. Mr. Ramer was blessed with all the qualities that you need to grow a family as one. Bob and I were happy having Alvin stand in for us as Bob's best man. That day I will always cherish. Who better to have married us and stand up for us but my family from across the street. I was sad to see you move but totally understand that we all can't be too selfish. I know, knew memories have to be made but, the old ones I will hold dear to my heart. All my love to you all. Hugs..

Connie, I am so sorry to hear about your Dads passing. I have many fond memories of your Dad through the many years that they lived here. He was a very sweet, kind man and I always enjoyed listening to his stories about his woodworking, and of course his spinning tool making. He always had time to spend a few minutes when he had to come into the post office and I loved our visits. May his memories comfort you and your family and your dear Mom. You are all in my thoughts and prayers and may God grant you peace as you enter this new journey.

Thomas Philp - June 24, 2024

I grew up on Percy Street, just a bit north of, and kitty-corner from the Ramers. Although almost all families on that street were decent, hard working, church-going folks, the Ramer family set the standard in that regard. Alvin, like the rest of his family, was a kind, patient, likeable person who never had an unkind word for anyone. His life, and his faith, have earned Alvin his reward. My heart goes out to his surviving family.
