It is with heavy hearts, the family of Frank Crowley announce his unexpected passing on June 17, 2024.
He passed peacefully with his wife, Jean, and three daughters by his side at the Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg, at the age of 83.
Frank was born in Limerick, Ireland. When the family moved to Dublin, he attended Oatlands College, run by the Christian Brothers. As a founding member of the Espoir Canoe Club in Seapoint, Co. Dublin, both he and Jean became competitive kayakers, competing around the country and, along with other team members, represented Ireland in a regatta in Spain. They married on May 26th, 1966, and immigrated that same day to Canada.
Frank enjoyed a long career in the insurance business, retiring as President and COO of Commercial Union Assurance Life company, after 42 years of loyal service. He had a passion for the water and both he and Jean enjoyed many years of sailing, as members of the Whitby Yacht Club, on his much loved “Innisfree”. Over the years and many cities, Frank and Jean built a wonderful group of lifetime friends.
Beloved husband of Jean Crowley (nee Rhatigan) for 58 years. Greatly loved father of Aisling Crowley, Georgina Morrison and Siobhain Sturno (Ryan). Proud grandfather of Cameron and Kailee Morrison, and Ronan and Brendan Sturno. Preceded in death by his parents, Leo Crowley and Eleanor (Pat) Crowley (nee Allen). Survived by sisters, Mary Moore, Liz Ryan, and Pat Crowley: and his brothers- in-law, Maurice Moore and Eamon Ryan.
Frank was a perceptive man with a quiet demeanour, who cared deeply for his family. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him, yet there is solace in knowing he lived a beautiful and fulfilling life. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched and his legacy of kindness.
The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to the paramedics and all the staff at Northumberland Hills Hospital for their kindness, compassion, and care.
A mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Church in Cobourg on Wednesday, July 24th, 2024, at 10:00 am. Celebration of Life will be held at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home from noon to 3:00 pm that same day.

Frank worked in the desk behind me in Dublin and emigrated to Canada one year before we did. He and Jean made our start in Canada very easy because they had been through the process so recently themselves. I'll never forget their kindness. Cherry and I wish Jean and the family the strength to deal with their sad loss.
